I'm sorry, but this is going round in circles. CP was running an excellent thread with direct links (which everybody seems to want) when it was closed without consultation or proper explanation. If the only question is whether the mags thread should include direct links or not, there was no reason to close that thread. it should just have been requested that new mags dailies were posted on the main board and linked to that thread for Cornish to add the direct link.

It was certainly never clear that the only question to be looked at after Christmas was whether the direct links or not should be restored. There was actually never any reason to remove them as that was nothing to do with whether the comps were also on the main board or not, and I just cannot see why some people can't see that. Not a single person on this thread that I have seen has asked for the mags thread to have links t main board not direct.

I totally agree that the views of those doing the posting should carry much weight. It is just a pity that the same criteria weren't applied when the original thread was closed and those doing such a fine job running it were treated so badly.

If the only question is about direct links why is that not the poll question on this thread?

I could go on but I'm going to stop now. Absolutely fuming.

If a big corporation had treated users in this way MSE would rightly be all over them.

Apologies to everyone I have doubtless upset by this. Nothing personal is intended towards anyone and I am very grateful to all posters for all their work.

    Amen to all of this!
Very well said rugmaker, I agree with every word! xxx

Don't know if this is a silly question but does anyone NOT want direct links to the daily comps?

The only reason I can think of against this is that without the link to the comp on the main comp board it may be harder to cross reference e.g. has the comp been posted on the main board or has it been added to the mag thread (not a problem if the op on the main board adds it straight away but if someone wanted to double check or whatever). Way round this maybe to add the details of the comp post on the main board when adding to the magazine thread.

Also the comp is effectively been posted twice.

Btw I am completely for the direct links and would prefer them (just throwing out potential issues before any change might happen - although I'm not convinced these are really issues)

The only people who might miss out with them in one place are those who for whatever reason choose not to read the stickies, including the comping guide.

The flood of low value multiple entry daily competitions individually posted on the main board makes it much more likely that people (including those who have read the stickies) will miss out on some competitions with decent prizes as they don't have time to trawl through everything even with the really useful red x (or you get "red X happy" dashing through them and hit the wrong competiton).

The individual posts on the main board are no use to end-daters either they have to enter through the mag thread or miss the chance to make more than just one or two entries per daily competition.

I really love this list and I tend to go to the mag sites and then enter all the ones I want from there. Most of the answers are there in the text and you do come to remember them after a day or two.

My personal preference would be a separate thread with the above info (hyperlinks to main comp page of each mag), and then the individual prizes listed in end date order without direct links.

    Maybe looking something like this...

    Marie Claire (hyperlinked)
    E: 01/02 £500 love to shop vouchers - [answer]
    E: 04/02 Wicked theatre trip - [answer]
    E: 15/02 Tefal Iron - [answer]

    Woman's Own(hyperlinked)
    E: 01/02 £500 love to shop vouchers - [answer]
    E: 15/02 Tefal Iron - [answer]

It would work for people who comp by magazine and also for people who comp by prize, imo. There would be more ease of copy/pasting and less work with individual links.
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!

I really don't mind if the comps are on the main board or not, I just ignore them from there. It was easier for me, but not necessarily for the posters (who need all the thanks) when the links were direct. I copy the ones I want into word at the moment, once I have thanked them in the original post. Go onto the magazine daily thread (whenever I do the dailies) to check if they have changed.

Oh, dear :( I feel so confused by all this.

    I have voted.

I think having to click twice (as it were) to get to the mag site is ridiculous but since I found I didn't like the change I bookmarked the sites and do them direct, as others have said. The answers are either obvious or easily found and if I get it wrong one day I know it will be right the next:)
