Well yes, I would be inclined to agree but it does not sound to me from the OP's posts that this is an option. I don't think she is going to walk away.

She does gave the option of insisting that they both start behaving like grown ups and have a proper conversation though.

Yes I could have worn the ring out of the sop, but the point is, he wouldn't let me.

If it were me, I'd not mention the ring/marriage ever again, but every time he went out of the door I'd be at his tool box getting the ring out and wearing it, before putting it back in his box before he came home. I'm not very good with surprises!

Maybe he wants to surprise when you get given it because you've seen it and knows he has it?
I think if I was doing this to my husband before we got engaged me begging for it would make him postpone asking more just because he knows how much I want it.
You have a child with this man, a piece of paper and a ring on your finger doesn't make that much difference. Just wait and it will happen when your boyfriend finds the right time.
