He might just be trying to buy a bit more saving time but doesn't want to admit it to you that he isn't quite financially ready.

Again, if a couple can't discuss this kind of problem between them should they be in a relationship?

Well yes, I would be inclined to agree but it does not sound to me from the OP's posts that this is an option. I don't think she is going to walk away.

Best way to get a man to do something is to stop nagging them.
Definately, the OP sounds a nightmare on this issue, the problem is that the issue is now massive that when he does propose no doubt it will be wrong.

    Feel for the bloke.

She does gave the option of insisting that they both start behaving like grown ups and have a proper conversation though.

I don't see this happening if OP is the kind of person who thinks withholding sex for 6 weeks is the way to convince her partner she is the woman of his dreams...

I tried that over Christmas and didn't 'put out' for six weeks. He was in a FOUL mood last weekend and I thought it might change his mind so I gave in. Didn't work.

Yes I could have worn the ring out of the sop, but the point is, he wouldn't let me.

I told him an hour ago to grow some balls and tell me the truth if he doesn't want to get married. I've made it very clear how miserable he is making me. I just think he's not taking me seriously.
    Good ol Blackmail....

Sounding more and more you are stropping.

Would someone change their mind about wanting to marry someone because they did that? Of course not! It's not blackmail, just a bit of give and take.
  • If it were me, I'd not mention the ring/marriage ever again, but every time he went out of the door I'd be at his tool box getting the ring out and wearing it, before putting it back in his box before he came home. I'm not very good with surprises! ;)

Does he still have the ring? Maybe he returned it because he couldn't afford it.
  • Maybe he wants to surprise when you get given it because you've seen it and knows he has it?
I think if I was doing this to my husband before we got engaged me begging for it would make him postpone asking more just because he knows how much I want it.
You have a child with this man, a piece of paper and a ring on your finger doesn't make that much difference. Just wait and it will happen when your boyfriend finds the right time.
