jsa abroad

Hi.

So my parents want to pay for me and my 3 children to go abroad for a week but i am currently on income based jsa. It wouldnt clash with signing on so will i need to notify the job centre? And could my benefits stop? And which ones if so? If I have to sign off then back on again how long would it take after losing a weeks money for the holiday anyway? I have children to think about so the thought of losing money is awful but don't want to turn down a free holiday. Not sure wot to do there's also housing and council tax benefit. Could that be stopped too?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance xx

you would need to sign off and do a rapid reclaim when you returned.
housing and council tax benefit wont be affected, but may be temporarily suspended, then reinstated purely because your JSA claim will end.
HB/CTB would be baclpaid to cover this week though.
  • Thank you. How long would a rapid reclaim take as I don't want to go weeks without money. Especially as I have children. Have you personally done this before? Do you know if I'm still able to get tax creds and child benefit? I would be going away the day I sign on so would I still need to do that? Xx

child benefit and ctc would be unaffected.
you would sign on as normal and tell them at that time, you are going abroad. they will them sign you off.
the day you return, you make the rapid reclaim. it should be dorted withing days
  • Thanks for putting my mind at rest. Have you ever had to do this or no anyone that has?

It may be better, then, to stay here and to keep looking for work, and delay the holiday until you are back on your feet.

You cannot claim JSA while on holidy abroad.
  • Some experience of rapid reclaim here

    no need to tell them.

you can sign yourself sick for 2 weeks as well, no sick note needed, I wouldn't do a rapid reclaim as it can take weeks, so not so rapid and not sure if you still have to wait the 3 or is it 7 waiting days now, which means no benefit for the first 3 or 7 days, so your holiday could cost you a weeks benefit.

I think in situation like this, you should be allowed to give the kids a holiday, especially when someone else is paying for it.

And when caught, sanctioned, and possibly accused of benefit fraud (which this advice is suggesting you commit), come back and ask for advice on what you should live on.

the OP can still look for work aboard, no one says you have to only look in the UK. as long as the OP is still looking for work and will travel back if they were to get a job, I can not see why that would be fraud.

They are going on holiday, not looking for work. They will be committing fraud if they do not sign off.

You do seem to have very little regard for following the rules of claiming, may I ask, has this ever lead to you being sanctioned?
