My office is on the 7th floor facing east with a huge window behind my desk, and I had a fantastic view of the eclipse - we had a 95% eclipse so not perfect but awesome all the same. Made even better, believe it or not, by the clouds - they allowed us to look at the sun without eye protection, but weren't thick enough to obscure the view. It was truly awesome. I loved it.

I'm also old enough to remember the 1999 full eclipse.

Probably not going to make the 2090 one though :o

I only arrived in the UK in January 2000 so didn't get the chance to see the one in 1999, and horrible thick grey clouds obscured my view today :(

It will indeed be a miracle if I am around in 2090 for the next one.:p

There will be another partial eclipse in 2026 (12th August from what I can gather) but it will be remarkable if I see the total eclipse due in 2090 as I'll be over 105 years old! :)
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

I've been trapped indoors with my son aged 10 who had to have a minor op a week ago last Wednesday. It was supposed to be keyhole but as the wound on his abdomen is two inches long I'm guessing it wasn't as keyhole as they expected. However, one plus point from the angst of the whole thing is that he was home yesterday morning to watch the eclipse with me and as LB says, the cloud allowed us to see it. He was a very happy small boy.

He's feeling better these last couple of days and has almost stopped walking like someone has stolen his horse (his op was for an undescended testicle) so we are off to get lost in Liverpool in a while looking for Sefton Park where there is an Artisan/makers fair today. Food and art, who could ask for more. I hope we find it. Despite being able to navigate London with no problems whatsoever, Liverpool confounds me time and time again!

I've used my time indoors (once the boy wasn't in agony and once I'd built all his Lego for him) to start my garden plans. I have upstairs (away from cat interference) in my propagator, tomatoes, sweet peas, courgettes, catnip, salad leaves and the boy has planted pumpkins and a giant sunflower. I hope something grows! I still have beetroot, carrots, spring onions, kale and radishes to do.

For what it's worth I'll be sticking around LB.
• Thank you :A

I've seen plenty of photos on this forum and also some footage on the news. Not quite the same as seeing it in real life though. It must have been so amazing. I wish I had been close enough north to see the northern lights that some have had the good fortune to see this week too.

That's something I'd love to see too, but not likely to where I live. It would be lovely to have so much money that you can become an eclipse/Northern lights chaser - there was a lad interviewed who'd seen about 5 eclipses all around the world & he was about 10 :rotfl:

Aw - that's lovely.

Am I evil for laughing at this description? Not about him & what he's been through obviously as that sounds horrific (I reflexively squeezed my legs together when I read your post & I haven't even got any :rotfl:). Really hope he's on the mend.

+1.
It's not fair! I'm green with envy! Nothing but heavy-duty "morning mist" here, beyond which the sun and moon could have been doing anything or nothing for all I know!

Hope your flu-ey bug is better soon, JKS, I was down with it last week and am still feeling a bit washed out.

Thanks - I know I am getting a bit better each day, but its taking soooo much longer than I thought it would. I feel like I'm having to recuperate after something serious, like a major operation, which is ridiculous; its only a viral infection. Still feeling a little _pale_ this morning, so not swimming, but floundering.

Hope all OK.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

LB

Hope you don't mind me cutting down your post LB (& for the record I agree with every single word of it) - but I wanted to highlight that line. That was why the original Xmas thread & this follow on thread were started & they've both helped me through some difficult times.

Its the weekend :j (shouldn't have done that jumping, I'm exhausted!). Hope we all have a good one.

Good morning all

 Looks like it's been a lively week in here....

All I'm going to say is that I have found this thread to be a great source of support, comfort and friendship and I hope that it will continue that way for a long time to come.

LB - I'm not going anywhere  You'd have to roll me out of here :rotfl:

Sounds like several of you are having tough weeks with various events, hospital trips and other general crud. Sending you all extra hugs and cake ;)

I didn't really get to see much of the eclipse as I was at work and was stuck on the phone for much of the morning. It went a bit dark outside but that as much as I could see

I'm having a quiet weekend - partly enforced due to being the last few days before payday - and partly cos I want to. Anyone got anything nice planned so I can live vicariously?? :p

BW :)

I don't think you should be so hard on yourself Jks, viruses are vicious little bu@@ers...they can do a lot of damage.

I'm still tired...but off to deep clean five bunny Hutches before owners come home. Trying to decide whether to put bunns outside for a while but although it's easy to pick them up from the hutch, relatively speaking, they are not so keen and its much harder, when outside in their runs.

It was looking brighter but now clouding over...

Hi BW

I'm planning on doing some laundry as I'm now on my last pair of PJs. They look lovely but are not fleece, so I keep getting tangled up in them when I thrash around in bed.

That exciting enough for you? :D

I had to wear proper clothes to go to the GP yesterday & they felt so wrong, even though I was wearing a fleece top. Not looking forward to having to wear real clothes for days on end when I go back to work :rotfl:

I'm lucky in that I can wear casual clothes for work - usually walking trousers & boots, & a plain T shirt. I'd be stuck if I had to dress like a grown up, don't think I've worn anything smart for years.

I now have an image of you running around, trying to catch rabbits :rotfl: Good luck. We had one rabbit for a while when DD & DS were little & a run about 4 foot square - used to spend ages trying to catch the swine & the run felt as if it kept growing & growing.... The kids used to be falling over with laughter at my pitiful attempts.

You're right Byatt, viruses are nasty & I should just rest. I'm obviously getting better through as I'm starting to notice what a disgusting tip the house has turned into. Doesn't take long, does it? Not quite at total squalor yet, but the housekeeping fairy has yet to make an appearance. Very disappointing.

Not so nice here now either - but no plans to leave my hovel just yet. I'm not feeling that well yet.
