Congratulations :T - I learned to cook with one around 1964 (aged 13) and have had the use of one ever since. I'm now 62, have 3- don't ask - and it's the one gadget in my life that would ALWAYS be replaced, IF were to ever be without one.
Truth to tell, I've only bought ONE of them - Prestige Hi-Dome 4ltr at reduced price of £22 (reduced to £19 by dsis's staff discount) around 7yrs ago. 6mths later DS1 (who works on security of empty properties) found a Magefesa (expensive brand) in a house he was looking after. Everything else had been removed and this had a broken handgrip on one side - so he asked the Housing Manager if it was OK for him to take it :j. Couple of years later he found ANOTHER one, this time a Prestige Hi-Dome 5ltr. Again he asked the Housing Manager and again was given permission as the house had been abandoned for over 6mths.
Amazing how much DS1 comes in useful - I got my cooker in the same way and he got his own Washing Machine like that too :j.
He's also the one who managed to get me the Keysafe AND fitted it for me - but then again, THAT is part of his job.
I hasten to add that he IS extremely honest and always asks permission of the appropriate Housing Management AND his own Line Manager before taking anything he finds.
He once found $900+ in the loft of an empty house - reported to Housing Manager who handed it to the Police. The previous tenant was asked if it was his and said NO. Police did an investigation in case it could have been 'the proceeds of crime' but couldn't prove anything. As nobody ever claimed it, 6mths later it became HIS. He got a commendation for honesty from the Housing Association AND a lovely letter from his own Management Team PLUS his little windfall :T.0 -

Got to collect my car from my mum's today, before starting my new job tomorrow. Haven't worked for a while but expecting it to be just a health and safety day tomorrow, have a tour watch a few boring videos and that kind of stuff.0 -

I have found the last few bdays difficult but this thread and all of you have helped me change my approach this year. :T I decided that I am not going to mope around so I have arranged to meet a friend for lunch. I'm also going try and look on all the positives rather than dwelling on the negatives. It worked for me at NYE so hoping it will do the same again now0 -

I've got things to do but don't feel like moving at the moment. Was planning to go in the kitchen and do some batch cooking but might put that off till tomorrow. Still see what the afternoon brings, the kitchen does warm up when the oven is on. Happy Birthday BW, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so it’s a bit early for me to eat cake…..but I may pop back later for some.Have ancient hand-crank sewing machine which I love using.A friend said to me recently-half joking- that she fancied an old fashioned wrap over apron,so I managed to get a pattern.Picture on front shows war-time lady wielding a mop like a weapon:D Have cut out and nearly finished sewing.
I love the idea of those wrap-around aprons, my granny always wore one. Where did you get the pattern?
Thankfully it’s a much brighter day here – yesterday was so dark and wet, like many of you I spent the day batch cooking – think I may have enough cooked meals in the freezer to keep me going until the middle of February.
Arranged to meet a friend after lunchtime today and go for a walk down by the beach, then a hot chocolate I think – another outing to break in my walking boots, thankfully my legs are getting used to them now.
I’m don’t like the term ‘spinster’ either but what makes matters worse - I’m also the ‘maiden aunt’ in the family. Why is it that women are categorised as Miss, Ms or Mrs when the same doesn’t apply to men.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
