I'd amend that to 'very fussy eater'. :)
I think it must be my upbringing. When I was young (millions of years ago!) Takeaways were unheard of, unless you count Fish & Chips. There was one Chinese restaurant a couple of miles away but they got closed down when a couple of Alsatian carcasses were found hanging in their fridge  So my parents were meat spud veg people and that's what they fed us kids. Now I'm of an age and in the position of having to be extremely careful what I eat as I suffer from excess stomach acid (too many fizzy drinks, I was addicted!). So no spicy food, no fruit at all, no fizzy drinks (:(). Some "foreign" food really does turn my stomach though. I wouldn't be surprised if the Alsatians in the fridge was what put me off in the first place although my sister eats loadsa foreign stuff. I think I just like to be safe. I'm not one for ready meals either, I like to cook from scratch so I know what's in it.

Having just read this back I think I may have food issues as I wouldn't want to go to a restaurant and I don't like eating in other peoples houses either. Hmmm.....

Fwiw one can cook 'foreign' food from scratch too.

In the last few weeks I've cooked food originating from uk, Italy, France, Iran, India, china, Japan, Georgia, hungry, brazil........not sure where else ATM.
  • I'm surprised people don't like travelling too. I'm not sure why it surprises me though. I guess it is just my overwhelming urge to travel constantly even though I can't haha.

I never got the opportunity for a gap year but I've give my arm and possibly a leg to be in the position to go for a year! We finally booked a proper a family holiday to Tunisia for 11 nights this year and I am debating whether I can take the kids on the 2 day Sahara tour during it. But don't know if they will cope at their age! I am also *fingers crossed I get in it* off to South Korea for 3 weeks on my own.

I would say go for two weeks but maybe not on a two week cruise there must be riding holidays all over Europe? With a week of each holiday your OH would have time to chill out on the cruise and you both get to get involved in your passion too.

What every you end up doing I hope you have a lovely time!

It would be lovely if the OP comes back from this holiday and posts to let us all know how she got on. :)

I love looking at holiday destinations, but I don't like holidays themselves and I thought I was the only one! I like staying in a travel lodge for a night near home that's about it! I wouldn't miss never going on holiday again, but will go to please oh.

I do think its a waste of money .... and that might sounds strange but I think of all the things at home that grand and a half could be spent on .... I mean 14 days and over a thousand pound gone ... just gone! Don't you think its a waste?

I think I'm being selfish and then that annoys me because you know, actually, I do have a say in this as well .....

I think I will need to compromise and just fake enthusiasm :o

How much does your horse cost annually? A damn sight more than £1000 that's for sure - does your OH complain at your hobby?

Secondly - I am firmly in the love holidays camp - is the one thing that keeps me going at work. 25 days leave a year is not enough!

    Hi All

Im not sure what I want to get out of this post but I can't seem to think straight so some fresh views would help hopefully :o

I don't particulary like going on holidays and a week is generally my max before I get home sick. I like them when i go and we have amazing beautiful holidays in private villas, plush hotels etc and this year thinking a cruise ... The thing is the cruise my OH wants to go on is two weeks long ... The thought of it fills me with dread. I just dont particulary want to go on holiday let alone two weeks away!

I know it probably sounds selfish as the large bulk of the holiday is paid for by the OH but I love being at home, I have my horse and my two cats, I like to potter in the garden etc

Am I being unreasonable and acting spoilt by not being grateful? My OH has always loved holidays and going away and to a certain extent I like it but the older I get (35) the less and less I want to go away and leave home and my passion which is my horse (OH doesnt share this passion and didnt have a horse 8 years ago when we met)

Any help, advise or kick up the backside much appreciated. Thanks :o

Nothing wrong with being homesick, I get it as well. However, you dont have to stay in plush hotels and private villas, you could have a holiday in a half decent hotel very cheaply particularly if you went all inclusive. Its about compromise. I dont love leaving my pets much either, I dont go away every year, the weekend I had in Spain last year was the first time I had been abroad in 6 years, but they were fine when I got back, your horse will be fine. And Im older than you, by almost ten years.

Sometimes you need to step outside your comfort zone a bit or risk just stagnating.
