Hello, my name is Sam. My running challenge target distance for 2014 is 800km/500 miles. (Joining this a bit late - but better late than never :).)
I’m 45 and consider myself to be reasonably fit. I’ve been running on and off for about 6 years. Last year I was running about 10 ½ minute miles, then I put on about 2 stone, and I’m now closer to 12 minutes L. (So maybe not as fit as I think!)
This year I’m trying to run in as many of my local 10k races as possible, and have also organised a 2 teams in my work to run in the Belfast Marathon Relay. (I’ll be running 2 legs of it, totalling about 9 miles.)
I have a spreadsheet (bit of a spreadsheet fan myself), which even includes trainer mileage!! I’ve been using walkjogrun.net to log my runs since.
    2014 (so far) 112 miles
    2013 420 miles
    2012 491 miles
    2011 305 miles

I've only been running since the start of the year. My first timed mile was 12m 50, my second was 11.50, and my third was 11.02 :j

So either I'm as unfit as you or you're not as unfit as you think :D

  • Hi,

I may be a little late to the party with this comment, apologies if its already been mentioned.

There is a national running group called ParkRun.

    www . parkrun . org . uk/

It wont let me post the proper link so just take the spaces out.

It is a great organisation and a wonderful way to get into running and keep the motivation going. They meet in venues, mainly parks obviously, across the country every Saturday at 9am to run a set course of 5k, which is timed. Best of all its FREE!!!

All you have to do is register on the website and print off your personal barcode to get your time for the event.

My local run is normally around 120+ people, who offer advise, support and motivation both on the course and after.

I would highly recommend looking into it for any new runners, or those who are one step down from Mo Farah.

Time for an update I suppose:

The run home from work tonight should push me over the 500km marker.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.
  • Right just off to run the five miles to my bike at the local train station from work, and then cycle the remaing 2.5miles homes. Not done anything for the best part of 2 and a half weeks due to holidays and illness!

Turned out a 38km this morning in a few seconds under four hours. Very chafed now.

I went out for my timed mile today and got it under 11 mins :j

Shame my repeated one took 3 mins longer :o

But I did it. In the sun, without cold wind and I was able to get the sun on my skin :j oh boy have I missed that feeling :rotfl:
