I've not heard that Claire, what's that all about?

I think it's basically that if they're all like padded up with a big winter coat or suit on, the self belt/straps won't protect them properly in a crash because I guess if they're in some sort of puffa thing it would compress easily and then they would essentially be in a strap that's too big?

I'm not sure what age it applies to and how much of a difference the research shows it makes though, I need to do some google research!

Couple of pages I found quickly

  • Had an emotional day today :(, had midwife come over am now 41 weeks (same due date as Kerri). Had a sweep which hurt!! Am apparently 1-2cm dilated and average cervix consistency.
Have been booked in for induction on Tuesday, was hoping it would be earlier but our hospital only allows for 6 inductions day and sunday and monday were fully booked and i got the last space on the tuesday.
Don't know what I was expecting from her, but when she left I just broke down in tears. My first baby was 7 days late and I stupidly assumed this one would be earlier!!!
Dunno if I am more scared this time and mentally its holding me back (my first birth was relatively straightforward with just pethidine and gas and air), just want it all to be over now.
So far I have been a bit achey after the sweep and had a tiny bit of bleeding but nothing drastic!!!!
I guess at least this time next week it may all be over! :)
    Perfect princess arrived 13.01.14 :):):)

What happens if you get sick and cannot keep down the fizzy lucozade at the GTT? I haven't been able to keep anything fizzy or really sweet down for about a month now....

I am sure if you let them know in advance about the lucozade they can arrange something else. They just have to make sure that you get the right amount of sugar in the time alloted. I wish I had asked for something else the lucozade was horrid but I kept it down. My midwives arrange the GTT for first thing in the morning so I only had to fast overnight and then at the end of the test I was offered tea and toast but I had taken bananas with me to eat after so declined the tea and toast.

Kynthia - I was supposed to take my maternity leave from about 30 weeks ut then I got gestational diabetes and the days I didn't work my blood glucose was significantly higher so I started work again. Will probably keep working till they induce me.

Faithhope - Thanks for the info re. the RAH. Going to be doing our timed practice run later this week.

I'm getting nervous about labour being so close. I like to think I will be strong but will probably beg for drugs or a section as soon as the contractions get going:o

Con the pram looks lovely. Ive never seen that one before! What swung it for you over the Oyster? Does it convert to a buggy?

Yeah it's the prestige I think. It does convert to buggy, it's another attachment for the buggy.

I'm not really sure what swayed me as I hadn't even looked at it online, I walked by it in the shop and had a glance.. then for some reason I kept going back to it and decided that something was telling me that's the one ! I sound so cheesy like i'm describing love at first sight here :rotfl: but it just felt right.

I do still love the Oyster though but wasn't so keen on the green instore, was more drawn to the grape but I don't know what I'm having and thought that it was defo girly in grape.

sorry, quotes button not working......my brother rather helpfully (not) told me that car seats are more to protect the person sitting in front rather than the actual child! He can be so comforting sometime *rolls eyes*
Anyhoo we just dressed DS in a couple of layers and always had blankets with us to put on top of the car seat if he got cold. The coats/padded bodysuits only got used when it was extremely cold as it was a faff to take them off every time we went in doors (DS overheated easily)

Don't feel bad about being emotional nickit1978, I think I'll cry lots if I go overdue. I'm just an emotional mess!

Thanks for those mentioning the glucose test - sorry for some reason quoting isn't going well for me today !

It says on my letter I get a glucose drink, then before I leave the hospital after the test I'll get something to eat ( likely a cardboard sandwich) I really don't like original lucozade lol would be happy with orange or apple :P but probably just be the syrup stuff anyway - will report back tomorrow.

Oh another thing I want to ask - SORRY - have any you started buying nappies yet ? How did you decide what brand to buy ? My mum was saying to pick some up whilst doing the weekly shop but I have no idea, some people telling me Little Angels (asda) are good and others are raving about Aldis ( I don't go there, tend to use Lidl but have an Aldi nearby).

nikit - I had a good cry today as well so don't worry we're just very emotional :) My sister called today and told me that I should have the baby at the weekend as that's when is most convenient for everyone!!! Having already been told not to have her at Xmas, New Year, the 2nd (nephews birthday), the 5th (nephews party) and now to be told to wait until the weekend it's no wonder little lady is late given how stressed I've been over which dates are "convenient" to everyone on my side of the family. I hate my sister! I actually think I do, I no longer have anything nice to say about her. She even had the audacity to tell me I should have bought a different car seat so I could take the baby the 2.5hrs down to them instead of her and her children who are 4 and 2 coming up to us. I am determined not to take my child down there unless completely necessary they can come to me. I appear now to be ranting, sorry.

Anyway, BigZ you are now a boldie :) and I've taken great pleasure in making you so.

con - gorgeous pram, absolutely love it.

  • Con we have the free Aldi nappies from the Emma's Diary packs to try but we also bought two packs of nappies from Boots so that we could get the free changing bags (both signed up so we have two spare bags - one to give each set of grandparents stuff with changing stuff, toiletries and clothes!)
Mil swears by Little angels for neice (and her dogs but that's a whole other story!) and they are on offer quite regularly so we will probably get those from her...Kiddicare do boxes of nappies for £20 for a large amount so we have said we will try those too. Not buying any more yet though as the stacker is almost full and obviously we don't know what size she'll need when/how fast she'll go through them.

Going to get more wipes in the ASDA baby event though as I figure there's no such thing as too many in our house as we use them regularly at tournaments for all sorts as well as at home, in the car, I have a pack at work...and so on

conn1888 I only just realised that I hadn't bought any nappies last week! silly me :o I'd get a couple of different brands just in case as you'll probably find that one type fits your LO better than others to start with. I like Pampers, Tesco, Lidl's and Boots so I'm no help slimming down your choiceof what to get! :D I found that only my cloth nappies didn't result in explosive poo all up his back occasionally though.

Your sister sounds like a pain Kerri. I agree with making them visit you if they want.

Am hoping I get some proper sleep tonight!
