Thanks for those mentioning the glucose test - sorry for some reason quoting isn't going well for me today !

It says on my letter I get a glucose drink, then before I leave the hospital after the test I'll get something to eat ( likely a cardboard sandwich) I really don't like original lucozade lol would be happy with orange or apple :P but probably just be the syrup stuff anyway - will report back tomorrow.

if this link works - it's the one I used to get onto Tesco baby event.

I had the GTT yesterday Con and it wasn't too bad (the drink I mean), I got given about a cup and a half (just a small plastic cup) and had to drink it within 5 minutes which was easy. It was just a clear syrup drink I had but tasted okay. I then stayed within the hospital for the 2 hours and returned again to the waiting room for the second blood test.

I can't believe how fast this thread goes! Only just got through all those pages and have already forgotten my responses to most of them!

Glad things are starting to progress Kerri! :j

Urgh, your sister sounds just lovely Kerri! Hooray for bloody show- hope that means she's on the way, I hope she comes tomorrow since that's not quite as convenient for everyone as the weekend! ;)

Thanks for the TENS hire link Mincepie, saved it to my favourites now to order! :)

Nappies - we're got some Huggies, Boots and Sainsbury's newborn nappies as I wasn't really sure what little man will like best and they were all bought on random offers. :) Got a mix of wipes too. :)

If anyone has the Tommee Tippee Sangenic nappy bin (I bought ours brand new for £2 at a nearly new sale!) Sainsbury's currently have a 3 pack of cassettes for £5.66, cheapest I've come across. :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

I think that's more if an adult isn't strapped in behind you! A baby crashing into you wouldn't be quite as bad, but would for the baby! So don't listen to him :)
    Thanks Claire :)

Come on Kerri! :D I want a birth reported from you soon ;)

I loved my waterbirth con1888 :) so a big recommendation from me.
TENS - felt like an odd tingling when I used the one I borrowed but it didn't work for me although I know people who swear it was a life saver. Again, its a try it and see I'm afraid. Nothing about this baby lark is set in stone - think how nice and simple it would be though.

Most nursery's use just cotton wool and water Lush in case of sensitive skin so claire's spot on with suggesting it. A load of cheap face cloths or a cut up towel make wonderful wipes too. No chemicals and very MSE.

Time for bed now I think

Thanks Birdie, we bought one for brand new £2 in the Asda baby event last time and were shocked at the price of cassettes for it. I will definetely be picking up a pack! :)

I wasn't keen on the idea of a water birth but starting to reconsider as I've had an achy back recently and it's like instant relief in the bath. Okay I know that it wouldn't be pain free giving birth but it may help a little... I haven't done a birth plan yet so I still have time to discuss it with my MW. Right now I don't like the idea of a TENS, the thought of something playing with my nerves kind of scares me and I also have a strange 'fear' of electricity touching me... I really need to get a grip though. I just don't like the unknown, had you used a TENS before, how did it feel this time ?

When I got into the birth pool the relief was awesome. Would definitely recommend trying it if you have the option - you can always get out if you don't like it and birth 'on dry land'!

I'd never used a TENS before I started having contractions. I think it helped, certainly for me to stay at home longer and not go in for more pain relief earlier on. Some people don't like the sensation or feel like it works for them. I figured that it wasn't much to rent one and I didn't have to keep it on.

I am really hoping that this time will be a similar run-up (give me a bit of time to get my daughter to my parents) if a bit shorter, water again and g&a, and a similar birth [but not the last push that gave me a 3rd degree tear :(]. Can't help thinking it will all happen completely differently this time!

    Good luck Kerri!

I'm not sure about tens either I need to find one to have a go on so I know if to rent one!

One friend loved hers but another said it felt like ants and hated it!she also hated water and said she had to be on 'dry land!' Whereas my other friend really recommends the water! I guess we'll see.

I know when my mum had one of those slender tone belts I tried it for a laugh and it freaked me out - is tens a bit like that electrical wise or not at all lol?!
  • :j Kerri! Had to laugh about the best pants thing too! Hope you are not stuck here too much longer!

Thank you, spose I can buy a few brands and decide. My mum said from her experience it isn't til they are a little older that you really figure out what's best for each baby as when they are very little you change them that often that they won't get leaks or anything as much.

I plan on stocking up on the Huggies wipes in the green packaging, Amazon do them for a good price if you buy bulk ( works out less than £1 per pack) as I use them atm anyways, I have sensitive facial skin and most make up wipes and baby wipes break me out but not these. I can't use Johnsons wipes for some reason my skin goes bright red plus I don't like the smell ( yet don't mind the lotions).

I really need to sort out my freebies, I signed up to join boots club and I have my Emmas diary email somewhere, maybe sort it all out over the weekend aswell as opening the pile of mail I have too....

I feel like such a pest asking loads but I had decided not to bother much til after NY and now that 2014 is here I'm like ARGHHHH. So please bear with me, I'm a first timer :o

I'm first timer too but never remember to ask questions when I have them!

With regards to freebies I signed up online to Emma's diary and then mentioned to a mw who has shocked I hadn't had the book and gave Me one, it has another voucher for each of the first two packs so I've had two of the first one (loved the Johnson's products in them!) and one of the second, going to pick up a second of pack two though as I have a second voucher!

Wipes wise, we had a box of six Johnson's from mother care (my preferred wipes tbh) then a full pack in the Johnson's baby toiletries box we got, a pack of Johnson's in each of my first Emma's diary packs plus I've also got four of the aldi wipes sample packs from the Emma's diary packs! That sounds like a lot but we've used three packs already (one on holiday/over Christmas, one is in the car, I have one for lazy make up removal days...)

I think all I need to get are a second car seat wrap blanket (no rush), a couple of sleeping bags (no rush for these though), I want a couple of groswaddles/similar and a couple of cellular blankets - if I can find any at a price I'm happy with!
Oh and I still need my hospital bag things so nipple cream, breast pads, pants I'm happy to throw away/disposables and need to decide on what clothes to take for me (already have nighties to wear whilst there)

Baby's r us ( toys r us) had good prices on cellular blankets in store today, our local one is closing down though so not sure if it was store specific.

I have still to get: blankets, pram mattress, mattress sheet, growbags, steriliser, bottles and I think that's me !! Also need to get a new tumble dyer and microwave so not baby specific but we've done without for moths and only getting them for convenience now that baby is coming so I'm including them in my baby buys

    Oh and nappies.

I too have hospital bag to sort, aim to have it done by next month, just incase. I picked up some sexy (ha) disposable pants, maternity pads and breast pads from asda the other night. Also bought a big tub of sudocream as I love it and think it's a miracle for all sorts of ailments. Need something to wear, don't have any nighties as I don't like bare legs in bed so I'll need to go out and get one.
