Back from the midwife. Ive grown 1cm in 1 week so now 26cm, so she was happy and said I shouldn't worry and shes seen charts go up and even down with various people doing the same women's measurements. She said see what the dr measures me as in 2 weeks and I said yeah I dont think I see you now til 34 weeks - so not for another 5 weeks.

Then I got home and she had left a message saying to call her back. So I did & she said I've spoken to a colleague and to make sure you're getting consistant checks for the growth thing as Im on the -3cm and they dont like it to go under that, ( I guess as Im seeing the dr next and who knows if it will even be the same dr I saw last time) shes booked me a scan on Friday at 10am!

So feeling a bit apprehensive now as I felt totally relieved and now Im like what youre sending me for a scan you said youd only do that if you were concerned! But I guess shes just playing it safe because I wont see her for such a long time so I cant fault her for that. And I dont think she would have done it if I was seeing her in 2 weeks and not the dr.

She said try to take naps in the day if I can & get lots of rest - good job I work part time! Babies hb was 160 this time she was moving about all over the place!

Now DH is not sure he can come to the scan because of work -aaaah.

Claire it does just sound like back covering, maybe if DH can't get time off it'd be nice to take a grandparent? When I had my second anomaly scan my DH couldn't come so I took my sister and she was delighted to get to see baby

Sex Kitten I did two days after 34 weeks as it was the Christmas period, just started maternity leave properly at 36 weeks. It was definitely time for me, the last day I was fit for nothing but it's hard to say cos you don't know with your first how you'll be, a colleague doing the same job really struggled past 30 weeks. I'd recommend not saving all your leave to take before maternity, try to keep a couple of days in hand so you can take them towards the end if you need rest

    Kerri sounds promising, fingers crossed!

Mum's just left after bringing me two nighties for Labour and a fleece suit for baby, plus brought me dinner and gave the downstairs of my house a good hoovering and sorting out. Feel really bad for moaning now lol AND when she moved the couch she found my needles I'd misplaced so I'm guna try and whizz a couple of hats out for little lady :)

I'm sure at the parentcraft class they mentioned there's an alternative to pethidine but can't remember what it is. She also said that the stronger stuff like pethidine can only be given in the first stage, only gas and air in the pushing stage as that doesn't go to baby and a lot of women find the transition bit from first to second stage the most painful so to manage your expectations of what you can get- if you feel like you need the stronger stuff at 8cm then ask for it, don't wait til you're 10cm because you won't be able to have it
I've been told by several different people that gallstone pain is worse than childbirth and I dealt with that with nothing but otc cocodamol so I'm quietly confident. In a way I think it'll be an 'easier' pain to deal with as what makes pain worse for me is not knowing why it's there or how long you'll have it for, which makes you panic. Hopefully I'll be able to stay fairly calm as I'll know the cause of the pain and that it'll go away once baby's born :)

I keep thinking that too TL. I hope I'll just be able to kind of zone out and focus on it being over soon! :) Good tip about asking for the pain relief sooner rather than later, I'll have to remember that!

Just had a text from a friend saying she's bought the baby a present and she's really excited. :) Nice to know our friends are looking forward to meeting him! I'm secretly hoping she's organising a baby shower but TBH I'm not holding my breath as no-one seems to be making any plans to see me at any point soon even though I've told them how little time I have left! Don't want the presents, just a bit of love and attention (and cake!) :o I'm normally the one organising this type of thing so they probably haven't even thought about it!

Claire, I'm sure that there's nothing to worry about, it's just that the MW is trying to be nice and thorough by making sure you can see that everything's OK since you're not seeing her again for a while. :) I'd quite like another scan to see how my little man's getting on. :)

Thanks for all the "happy due date"s ladies :D In 2 weeks, whichever way I go into labour and however that goes, one way or another bubs will be born... crazy!

Big Z are you going to join the facebook group so we can see pics of mini Z when they arrive?! :)
Still debating that one :o I might put one on here for a limited time, or perhaps PM to those who ask, if not though...?

Happy due date BZ, so excited that you've made it :) not long now, these babies like to teach us patience.

Trying to keep this in mind today as I remember my first scan I felt I'd been cheated of two weeks compared to what I thought the edd was. Trying to remain sane :)
    Thanks :)
You mean you thought you were 2 weeks further on than you thought, or 2 weeks less?

Oh dear Becca, what was wrong with the class? Making me really wonder if I should go tonight now! :o
Have you made a decision yet? I decided that if my anxiety level exceeded what I thought I'd get out of going then it wouldn't be worth it. And tbh I haven't regretted that decision (though of course I've yet to actually go through labour :p). If your main thing was going for DH and he can't go then that would give me even less incentive...
Hope you slept better last night BZ. It's annoying when you know you need to rest but you can't seem to catch a break! So excited that it's your due date! :j Well done for getting so far too! :T
Thanks :D I managed to sleep from around 3ish til maybe 7-8ish? with a piddle in between ;) then got DH (working from home) to bring me breakfast and read some on my K1ndle and fell asleep again maybe 10.30ish til about 2. Feel really tired still but considering going to the supermarket for some bits and pieces (and we have a £6 off £40) and stock up on the essential yet boring things that we'll not want to drag ourselves out for once bubs has made his/her entrance to the world. Also considering it for the wander round, but while relatively warm and dry ;) otherwise I'd send DH (again ;)) with a list :p Or...alternatively, I might just go back to bed again :p

Waiting to hear from Jox... and Rummer...

Claire Glad bubs has grown over the week and hopefully that puts your mind at rest. You were always going to be more prone to getting mithered about bump size, with your size, I think, so just try to see the scan as another opportunity to see bubs :) I think the midwife is just trying to pre-empt your panic if the GP measures differently (the one "out of curve" mark on my growth chart was when a student MW did it and had the top of her tape measure on my sternum :p), rather than that either of them think it's a problem. So long as the measurements are following a general trend it's unlikely to be a problem :)

Fran-o sometimes when I'm lay in bed I forget I'm even pg (I was catching up on the ttc 12m+ thread last night actually and momentarily had a panicky 'how are we going to get pregnant?!' moment, then realised I wasn't just pg but about to pop :o), and then when I try to get up it all comes flooding back ;)

Teamlowe I'd be wanting to knock that little habit/trend on the head, straight off :o Good luck to you :p Glad she helped out etc while there though :)

I've been for a few (non-pg related) consultant appointments (even at 9months gone) lately where they've weighed me for BMI and I was like "really? What is the point??" No-one pg related has wanted to weigh me since booking in though, although my consultant wasn't concerned in the least about my BMI when I was first referred and they've just been concentrating on the other factors.

Faithhope I was exactly like a bear with a sore head! :p

Lush hope you get it sorted in a way you're satisfied with

Bambisbelle I've been told that the occasional heart palpitation (I had them too at various points) is due to the hormones too. If they're causing a problem or particularly frequent though, don't hesitate to get it checked :)

Jemb I won't see a HV til MiniZee is 2 weeks old

    Kerri fingers crossed

Debs I think the measuring started with me at 24 or 28 weeks, there's time yet ;) In your notes there's probably a chart waiting to be fillled in and I think the earliest possible entry on it is 20 something weeks, so you could have a look if you're concerned?

Con Yay for making a decision you love, rather than just going along with one to get it done :D

Re pethidine, my consultant basically said don't bother. Go for diamorphine instead if you're gonna have one or the other. Nausea is an issue with it, drowsiness too, and my friend said she'd never have it again cos she just felt out of it and didn't like it at all.

I don't enjoy needles (have to look away and have a strong dislike of cannulas, cos you can't escape them and my mind imagines where the needle is under the skin etc) but the one I'm really hoping to avoid is an epidural/spinal block. *SHUDDER* :silenced:_pale_ I figure if I'm in enough pain to consider relenting on that one, then I'm in definite need of it! :p

Re: Pain relief, I'm wondering if the fear of the massive needle will convince me to stick to just G&A/Paracetamol?! :p My SIL said that she put on her birth plan that she wasn't to be given morphine as it makes her really sick... she had a c-section (not on the plan! ;)) and then they gave her morphine afterwards because no-one had bothered to read her notes! Poor love spent her first few hours with her new baby puking her guts up and feeling really out of it!
I don't know whether all hospitals are the same but at my hospital whenever you are admitted they ask you if you are allergic to any drugs (which includes any adverse reactions) and write them on a red wristband if you are so they don't need to stop and read everyone's notes just in case.

Con that pram is lovely! Looks like a traditional one without being ridiculously big lol

BigZ to be fair I've just remembered that she was the same when I had my gallbladder out, she came every afternoon after working since six, two buses to my old house and two buses back. I'm sure if I said anything she wouldn't come but she's a fusspot and I don't mind time with her really, not now she's done the tidy that was bothering me lol just have to get her a key so she can slip in instead of knocking and waking me up from a nap lol

I'll definitely want to see a picture of miniZ, can't tell you how pleased I am for you that you're so close to having your baby in your arms. I admire your patience, if someone said to me I could be induced early I don't think I'd have the strength to wait lol

Can I ask a stupid question- does anyone else think that their hair has stopped growing? I had it cut short in November and thought I'd get a trim before baby comes but it doesn't seem to have grown!
