    Will avoid pethadine then!

Furniture just arrived! And I now have muddy foot marks in my carpet grr delivery guy was very friendly but didn't wipe his feet enough so now I'm waiting for the cleaning stuff to dry!

Sjlou last time I was 25cm at 27 weeks (but I'm down as 28 weeks due to them using lmp) we'll see what I am now at 29 well (28+5) weeks (their dates of almost 29+3) at 2pm..I'll be very happy if it's 27. Tried measuring myself at home but don't really get if I'm feeling the right thing!

Sk I wonder if it's because she's an older/more experienced midwife.

My friends midwife was the same and said 20 years ago women would routinely stop work early and she would recommend it.

But tons of women work til 38 weeks and no one bats an eyelid nowadays.

I would have thought 36 is pretty reasonable!

I recognise your username from somewhere but just can't place it... Hmmm  Ah well, welcome anyhoo :)

    Happy due date!

I used to post on BabyExpert with the same username when DD was little (born in Dec 08), but that's about the only other place I can think of where we might have crossed paths! :D

Re: labour pains, I think it's really a case of every labour is different, even with the same mum. With DD, all the pain was in my back, which really caught me out as I'd not expected that at all. I'm usually a total wimp with even the tiniest amount of pain, but I managed in the end with just gas and air. Open to an epidural this time around if there's time (DD was 4 hours start to finish!) but really want to avoid pethidine if I can, my best friend had it with her first son and he was really drowsy when he came out and it affected them getting BFing established.

sexki11en, I'm surprised by that too - I think 36 weeks is totally realistic. I managed to 37 weeks working in a restaurant with DD, aiming for 38 weeks this time as I work from home at the computer now as a freelancer, so I can taper my work off as I need to.

I had my 24w MW appointment today (23+2) and she asked me when I was planning on finishing work. I told her 4 weeks before my EDD and she said in her 20 years experience, she thinks I'm being ambitious and said she'd be thinking more along the lines of 6 weeks prior.
Six weeks! wow. I took two weeks last time and am doing the same this time too. I don't know anyone who has taken more than three weeks. And if you're overdue - what a waste of mat leave/holiday if you are managing at work ok.

sjlou re HV's, thankfully last time all mine were friendly even if a few off-hand comments did make me fume with their thoughtlessness. I got extra home visits because of the PPH and I only went to the clinic to get DS weighed about 3 times! :o Most of my friends complained about the HV's pushing formula on them because their LO's didn't gain weight fast enough - you just have to stand up to them or not visit like I did.

We can't make the NCT classes in our area and I'd hate paying that much for only me to get to go and bf not be able to attend. So we booked the local NHS ones which are just two sessions 6.30pm-8.30pm on Monday nights. I don't mind MIL coming or anyone else coming but I wanted bf to be there more for him than anything :/ He wanted to make every appointment and this will mean he'll miss two things in three weeks :( bah best get over it as now someone covering for our scheme manager has made me all irate on the phone and my heart is going and I feel really hett up and ill now :( ... its just not my day :(

Aw Hon, not your day! Can you go to a different hospital for them? I didnt go to the NHS ones as figured it would be covering double, is there another 2 sessions you could both go on? Or, could you take a recorder for OH, make notes or ask for the person taking the session for notes? so he's in on things too? x

Ha my midwife will get a shock if she asks! I'm planning on finishing at work on the 10th March and baby is due on the 28th!

My reasoning though is that I work Monday-Friday, primarily at a desk, in an office, without much exertion at all plus everyone has me wrapped in cotton wool here too so no danger really other than the stairs if I dare/have enough energy or enthusiasm to venture away from my desk!

(Plus it gives me a much better pay packet on the 25th as I'm taking 17th-21st as annual leave so rather than pay me 2 days mat pay I'll get the full month at normal pay (pay day is the 25th).

Called up about moving the antenatal classes again and I can't :( looks like it will be me and MIL. Unless my parents are available (either go with my dad or him bring my mum up and wait for us somewhere!) thank you for thinking about notes though jemb - I will make some...or take my dictaphone and record it (with everyone's permission of course!)

I hated pethidine, but mostly because it made my awareness go all weird. I lost chunks of time, which I didn't like. OTOH, I loved gas and air - looking forward to that again!

sexki11en: I'm hoping to work up to 38 weeks. I think I did that last time as well (mind you, I have a desk job which probably makes quite a difference...), although I'm finding the pregnancy harder this time around (probably because I have an active toddler who won't let Mummy sit in quiet on the sofa :P).

Re NCT classes - with my first I went to an NCT course that was about 8 weeks long. I think we only had a complete class for about 4-5 of those. Some weeks one of the women was off sick, or one of the men was away on work. My OH had to miss a class because we was collecting a new kitchen unit from half-way across London! It wasn't a problem at all. Some people had their Mum/other relative come instead, but I just went on my own for the one week.

Bambisbelle: I've had some heart palpitations this time around. Asked my Dr about them early on, and it can be a side-effect of pregnancy because you have more blood going around your body. They did an ECG on me just to be sure, which didn't show anything. I didn't follow it up further because they got better after that, but I think they're coming back a bit now.

So, is everyone getting a HV at the mo? I've not even had it mentioned!

In some ways if you end up going on your own Lush you can have full
concentration - I'm sure my DH will be asking embarrassing questions etc lol! Maybe yours is more sensible though :)

I'm not Jemb think that's just after the birth here.

Re: mat leave - I took an entire month off before my EDD...however I think if I didn't work from home I'd have had to go on mat leave earlier as I just wasn't able to concentrate properly from around 32w and I was sooo tired.

Interesting thing has just started to happen to me and I'm not sure whether to get actually excited this time. I'm getting gas type pains, but without the gas. They're coming in waves and my bump goes all tight. Could this be the start of something? Oh please let it be!!! PLLLLEEEAAASSSEEEE

    Hi Ladies,

    I hope everyones well?

I had my 24w MW appointment today (23+2) and she asked me when I was planning on finishing work. I told her 4 weeks before my EDD and she said in her 20 years experience, she thinks I'm being ambitious and said she'd be thinking more along the lines of 6 weeks prior.

Can I ask if any of your MW have said the same and when did/are you going on Mat leave (inc any holiday time before hand)

I work in HR so you'd think they'd know better but my work aren't overly happy with the 4 weeks I'd suggested - they'd assumed I'd be working until the end of April  (EDD 5th May) I did tell them that was their bad luck and they shouldn't have assumed anything without asking me lol.

I think they're worried about sorting my cover (they haven't started looking yet) but it's not like I didn't give them enough notice of this pregnancy - I told my boss off the record at 5 weeks pregnant (he'd given me time off for IVF so felt it only fair to let him know)

    SK x

Me and my midwife agreed with finishing at 36 weeks, although it so happened that my body had other ideas so I ended up finishing at about 34weeks instead:D
I think it's a good thing for me finishing that early cause I was terrified of my waters breaking at work.
