Aw Lush that's pants. My OH got stuck in Birmingham for one of ours and had to ring my Mum in tears (irrational pregnant ones)I went with my Mum and it was fine. They actually ended up asking her a load of questions as she had a really bad birth with me so used her as a case study. How many classes do you have? We went to NCT so think there were 6 or 7? One lady there only had her husband there for a Sat session as he couldnt make the others and nobody batted an eyelid. So take a Mum either yours or OHs or a friend and dont be upset x

We can't make the NCT classes in our area and I'd hate paying that much for only me to get to go and bf not be able to attend. So we booked the local NHS ones which are just two sessions 6.30pm-8.30pm on Monday nights. I don't mind MIL coming or anyone else coming but I wanted bf to be there more for him than anything :/ He wanted to make every appointment and this will mean he'll miss two things in three weeks :( bah best get over it as now someone covering for our scheme manager has made me all irate on the phone and my heart is going and I feel really hett up and ill now :( ... its just not my day :(

Was just thinking about leaving a key with the neighbour but luckily my mum has just rang & said DH told her about the furniture & she'll pop over if needs be!

That's annoying lush, do you mean you can't go on your own or you can but just are annoyed you'll have to? Edit - just read your second post, maybe take your mil with you then?

DH has moved some work clients around for the nct classes but I figure if there's any he can't come to I'm sure some other peoples husbands might miss some plus someone could be a single parent anyway, so I won't be the only one on my own and I can just feed back the information. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Have you looked at other classes apart from nct? Where I live if nct isn't convenient there were about 3 other ones you could do all run by various groups or people.

Birdie - meant to say, Hooray for finishing work next week :j bet you can't wait!

Lush - could you ask someone to go with you and leave them in the hospital cafe with a newspaper while you go to the class?

Claire- Hope you don't miss your furniture coming although that's nice of your neighbour to take it in. Re pain in labour, I think there is a huge variation in people's experiences. I don't think it's about pain threshold, I think some people just don't get as painful a labour. Personally I think it's good to read lots of experiences. My labours were so painful I was shocked that that level of pain was even possible. My whole body kind of froze. But then some people say the pain wasn't anything like as bad as they imagined and some have really quick births, fingers crossed you'll get one of those. The main thing is to be open minded and don't feel like a failure if you do need some pain relief apart from G&A. 2nd time my epidural only partially worked so I still needed G&A which made me puke all over DH :rotfl:

Yeah I'm definitely not going to worry about that. I'm trying to avoid it more because the size of the needle scares me and potential side effects. If I need pain relief I'll take it!

I think you're right though, one of my friends is quite wimpy with pain but managed with just the gas. Oh no I hope it's not another thing that makes me sick that will be just typical!

Hi everyone :) Just came back from the midwife and everything seems good. He's sending my notes to the birth center manager who will have the last say as to whether I'm allowed in or not. Fingers crossed for me please!

He was a bit shocked that my most recent consultant said there was no need for a cannula and wondered why they bother recommending the delivery suite in the first place. I lost 1.2 liters of blood last time.

He asked if I would be happy to have him at the birth. I know some people might be werided out by a male midwife delivering their baby but he's been so supportive and I'd feel better with him there.

Pain in labour - I agree with faithhope that everyone if different. I found the contractions perfectly manageable, only the last 30mins did I want more drugs to be told no. I remember just afterwards saying to DH that I could do that again easily :D I'm hoping it will be the same this time! My friend however said she had one contraction and started begging for an epidural :rotfl:

Sorry you are having a bad day Lush. ((hug))

Claire, how exciting that you have furniture coming! :) We have to get a wardrobe organised! I'd be happy with anything as long as it was tidy but as baby's room is the only one 'done' in the entire house DH wants a nice sturdy one i.e. new.

  • Thank you for kind words of support ladies, after a bit of a text row I managed to sort it out with baby's daddy the other day.

Hormones are everywhere at the minute, one minute I'm smiling next I'm blubbing. Thats mainly due to the fact I've had palpitations frequently for the past two days mainly when resting, its scaring the life out of me.

    Has anyone else had this??:o

Little lady seems more active now than ever though so that can only be a good sign right?

Hoping everyone is well? Will catch up on the thread properly in a bit :)

wow a lot to catch up on here!!

welcome Mazzarati, stsarina, nickit and Crabapple!

I've not heard anything about health visitors yet. Although have heard they can be a pain in the a**.
My booking appointment with MW was at home, so maybe they don't need to come see me to assess if I live in a crack den?!:rotfl:

Birdie Think I'm going to go for RLT tablets too. A friend of mine who recently gave birth said the MW commented on how soft her cervix was when she went for her sweep. When her waters did break baby arrived within 2 hours! No tearing or anything. I'm hoping for that birth!! :D It was so nice for her as her first was terrible, in hospital for 3/4 days, bad tearing and forceps delivery. They even didn't stitch her up correctly, she had to go back in to be re-done.

TL Cant believe theyre still trying to use BMI on you!! I've not been weighed at all since my booking. Apparently they don't bother now in my area, as its not really a good indicator of anything.
I've got another cold too. Was v grumpy at work yesterday. Working at home today, so not too bad.

nickit and kerri Hope youre both staying relaxed and not getting stressed over baby not being "on time".

becca sounds like you've got some lovely colleagues.
That's one of the reasons I'm not bothering with the NHS classes. If I'm doing NCT, is there anything they could possibly tell me that I wont already know? Plus they're daytime ones, so would muck up another day at work.
I've seen some posters for a breatfeeding cafe, so once I'm on mat leave might drop in there if I think I need any more advise on feeding.

con what an emotional day you had. hugs xx Have fun pram shopping today! My grape colour pack arrived for the oyster carry cot. Really happy with the oyster.
I like that M&P wallpaper too, but OH not so keen. I think I'm going go cream on the walls and then try to draw on the animals that feature on the changing mat we've got. Then pick a colour from these for the curtains/blinds etc.

If I mess that up then I'm going to get some wall stickers. :p

mrsbunny glad to hear youre ok, what a stressful day you had. Feeling better today?

BZ I definitely be grumpy after that nights "sleep"!! Happy due date!:T

Jox Hope today goes well for you. Looking forward to hearing an update.

samtoby I cant believe you cant see your midwife this month! I'm just back from my appointment and booked for the next (29th Jan) and had choice of times. We never book more than 1 in advance.

claire How did you measure up? I've just been measured this morning for the first time, 27cm and I'm 29 weeks. So bottom end of the "normal" band.

fran that sounds like a lovely day planned! Enjoy your massage.

lush thats not good, he must be so disappointed too. Is there no one that can take you? Can they move you to a class on another date?

afm, apart from the cold not a lot to report.
The midwife appointment went ok. Not the normal MW again, but she was nice enough.
Although it did mean that she couldn't log onto the computer to check my blood results. So now I have to wait for the other one to check, and she'll ring me if she need to. Otherwise it'll be discussed at my 32 weeks appointment.
As I said above measuring at the bottom end of the "normal" band, 27 cm but she didn't seem concerned.
I then went to book my whooping cough injection appt, and ended up waiting 10 mins and having it done there and then! Didnt hurt at all, and no achy arm as yet.

OH is cracking on with the babys room now. Him and his dad sorted out the electrics yesterday, so we now have a light fitting and sockets put in.

Working at home, lacking motivation and trying not to eat too many biscuits! :D

    Hi Ladies,

    I hope everyones well?

I had my 24w MW appointment today (23+2) and she asked me when I was planning on finishing work. I told her 4 weeks before my EDD and she said in her 20 years experience, she thinks I'm being ambitious and said she'd be thinking more along the lines of 6 weeks prior.

Can I ask if any of your MW have said the same and when did/are you going on Mat leave (inc any holiday time before hand)

I work in HR so you'd think they'd know better but my work aren't overly happy with the 4 weeks I'd suggested - they'd assumed I'd be working until the end of April  (EDD 5th May) I did tell them that was their bad luck and they shouldn't have assumed anything without asking me lol.

I think they're worried about sorting my cover (they haven't started looking yet) but it's not like I didn't give them enough notice of this pregnancy - I told my boss off the record at 5 weeks pregnant (he'd given me time off for IVF so felt it only fair to let him know)

    SK x
After 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!

SK I'm surprised at that recommendation from the MW! Its not been mentioned to me at all. I'm planning on 3-4 weeks prior to EDD. I'd like to go as close as I can, but with an hours drive there and back its just not going to be possible.
I'm not even being covered whilst I'm off! One of the junior team members will be stepping up and taking on some additional responsibility.

Just delurking to say that Pethidine might be one to avoid if you get sick...It is known to make people sick so they give an anti-emetic at the same time. Didnt work for me though, i still threw up all over midwife and the student midwife, and i dont remember it actually relieving any pain! Absolutely awful stuff!!

Everyone is different though, someone else might have a pro-pethidine story!
