Hi ladies. I had an excellent sleep last night and not long awake ( didn't sleep til around 2 am mind)

The curtains I bid for on eBay arrived and they are lovely BUT they don't fit my window lolololol I had baby brain when I bid and didn't think to measure. They were £10 in total so not a huge loss and I could maybe make something out the nice material- any ideas ? I'm NOT crafty ...

Going to pick the wallpaper for nursery up tonight got email to say it's ready :)

These are proper non-crafty non-sew items! I made a few over Christmas http://larderlove.com/2013/11/19/how-to-make-a-recycled-fabric-mini-wreath-no-sewing/ and they turned out lovely. You could do heart shaped etc

Or you could have a go at bunting?

Thank you, not sure bunting would work as they are white with abc and animal pattern but the pattern is a bit spaced out, could give it a to though with a few bits and see how it goes ! They are too nice to just out away and never be used.

What about framing some of your curtain fabric in large frames in the nursery? Or stretching and stapling over a blank canvas (cheap in the works or wilkos)?

Smlsave - what about pain relief?

I.e if you don't want an epidural but think you might start asking for one you can put in your notes to get them to try to put you off or remind you of this at the time. Equally you could put that you would like to avoid one but if you ask it means you want it & don't want a discussion as you're open to it.

When you say no forceps (which I don't want either!) what would be the alternative or do you just mean no unless incase of emergency/last resort?

Sounds pretty good & succinct though!

I'd agree with the above, if you're in a situation where forceps would be used, what would be your alternative as usually they're a last resort and it may be that the only other thing they can do is a c-section

And what about ventouse, would you be ok with that or does it need adding as a no no but again, what would be the alternative?

    Thanks Claire :)

Last time I managed on just gas and air so I'm hoping to do that again *fingers crossed* Otherwise I'm happy to go with what's available/recommended.

I'm tempted to ask for general anesthesia over an epidural/spinal block in the event of a c-section/tearing but I'll discuss that on the day with the Dr.

    I mean no foreceps at all - I'd rather have a c-section.
By the way, with regard to skin to skin for dads, we've packed a casual shirt for hubby in the hospital bag, so that he can do this without having to wander round topless, ie buttons undone but still got clothes on! I can't remember who first mentioned this but thought it was a good idea!
I've packed a shirt for DH in the hospital bag so he can do easy skin-to-skin. Not a good one just in case it gets stained!

This works really well con1888 :) Occasionally I get extra large samples of fabric/wallpaper just to do this!

I should be working on a big pile of files on my desk but there's a cream cake calling my name.....

Fair enough, perhaps write that down then so they know that's what you mean.

My friend had a chosen GA when she had a c-section for her first baby but I think they're pretty against that now - this was about 8 years ago. She changed her mind for the second one and had an epi/spinal as she said it ended up being really weird waking up and a baby was there, even though she was really set on it originally and no one could persuade her otherwise. I can imagine feeling like that too though as an epi scares me a bit. Especially as we saw the needle/cord thing at nct last night! Seems nicer to just be knocked out.

Most places seem to be pretty good with the skin to skin now, our hospital actively encourages it.

I think I'll be told no to GA if I ask for it but I'm still going to ask. After all I've had GA before with no side-effects but never experienced epi or spinal.

I'm going to go through the birth plan with DH tonight so he's clear what I mean/want.

I've opened one file from the pile so there's a small amount of progress here!

Jemb - hope your sweep went ok :)

Claire - I had diamorphine and it was fab. No sickness but G&A made me puke a few times but still good:D I also had an epidural. Could probs have done without if labour had been shorter but that level of pain for so long got unbearable. I didn't see the needle or feel anything when it went in, I was just sooooo grateful I was going to get a bit of relief :)

SmlSave - I would clarify what they would class as urgent for episiotomy. Some of them seem a bit scissor happy  I've had episiotomy and a tear and the tear didn't affect me at all whereas it took about a month to recover from the cut. In saying that the cut was by a junior doc who didn't know what she was doing *shudders*
So I'd say to Fran-o, include no junior docs as some of them are basically students too, getting experience in different areas of medicine.

AFM- As I'll be having DS a week early that puts me firmly in the top ten!!!

Eeek! I will amend it right away to episiotomy only by fully professional person
