Hope the sweep gets things moving Jemb

Does anyone mind if I post my birthplan for you to have a look at and see if I've missed anything you think is needed? I've kept it extremely basic.

    Jemb - good luck today!

I have had a post load of nappies today! I have bought some tots bots washables as I am hoping to use this most of the time and disposables occasionally!

Post your birth plan Smlsave - I never had one with my DS but plan to do one this time. :)

Thinking of the boldies! jemb, hope your sweep goes okay this morning - I managed to dodge one with DD as she came at 39+1, expecting the same again this time around as I don't think I'll be allowed to go overdue.

Smlsave, pop it up! Not started mine yet so I don't know how much help I'll be, but I've been thinking about it at least :D

Rubbish morning here so far - started off by throwing up all over the sink trying to brush my teeth, DD wet herself on the way to school, then I came home to discover DH had spilled chili con carne all over the (pale!) rug last night and not noticed. Promptly burst into tears, then discovered there was no chocolate in the cupboard and I can't even go and get some as the boiler man is coming to do the service any time now. Think I'm going to write today off and curl up with a trashy book tonight once DD's in bed!

  • Please post! I need to do mine too. I'm a writer by trade and I'm worried when I write mine up it'll turn into a novel!!!

Ooh, another writer! Freelance author and editor here :) When I write mine I'm intending to restrict it to bullet points only to make it easy for the midwife to read and stop myself from going overboard.

    My Birth Plan

    • Minimal monitoring
    • No cannula – consultant agreed
    • No forceps
    • Episiotomy ONLY if urgent
    • Skin to skin straight away. If not able DH to do (anyone who says not necessary can leave)
    • Leave alone for 10mins unless heavy bleeding
    • Delayed cord clamping
    • Injection for Managed Third Stage
    • Gas when being examined after birth
    • Someone with baby at all times
    • Call Mum if third degree tear/emergencies/staying in
    • Breastfeeding – no drugs that will affect milk

    What do you think?

Thanks for sharing your birth plan, ours is similar ie short bullet points, although not quite as succinct. I might follow your lead and shorten it a little! A few extras I've mentioned that you haven't:

    Husband is birth partner
    Prefer female midwifes
Prefer no students present during birth

Skin to skin contact once baby arrives - with mum, or dad if mum cannot.
Would like to breastfeed but allowing recovery time post-birth first.

Pouring with rain here and wondering if I'll make it out of the house today after all!

By the way, with regard to skin to skin for dads, we've packed a casual shirt for hubby in the hospital bag, so that he can do this without having to wander round topless, ie buttons undone but still got clothes on! I can't remember who first mentioned this but thought it was a good idea!

Sounds good, the only thing I would suggest is mentioning how you'd like to labour - ie. staying active as much as possible, or staying on the bed. Also, do you want baby to have the Vitamin K injection straight away?

Smlsave - what about pain relief?

I.e if you don't want an epidural but think you might start asking for one you can put in your notes to get them to try to put you off or remind you of this at the time. Equally you could put that you would like to avoid one but if you ask it means you want it & don't want a discussion as you're open to it.

When you say no forceps (which I don't want either!) what would be the alternative or do you just mean no unless incase of emergency/last resort?

Sounds pretty good & succinct though!
