I've been getting quite a lot of Braxton hicks today... Does anyone know if that's normal at this stage... I've had them regularly for a while but definitely getting them more often now!

Just back from our nct class. We spent about 1.5 hours looking at pain relief and even though I've read a lot about it I still discovered stuff I didn't know & it was really useful. I found out my hospital doesn't offer pethadine but has diamorphine which is supposed to be very slightly better in terms of drowsiness affecting the baby but still likely to make you feel really sick so I'm not to keen on it as had enough of being sick!
Faerie my friend was quite shy about breast feeding at first, she said she hated doing it in front of any men etc however after literally 24 hours of me, DH and my parents visiting her & her family she totally relaxed and seem to forget it I think she surprised herself! Later on she got the confidence to do it out & about & she doesn't even use a cover up or anything, but her babies head covers anything it really just looks like they're having a cuddle I was quite impressed! My other friend uses a shawl thing.
Our next nct class is all about breast feeding but they said to go if you're not sure or planning on bottle feeding as lots of the info will cover general stuff about feeding and babies development etc which is relevant wherever the milk comes from.0 -

Aargh! I'm only 11th on the list, but if you factor in duplicate due dates I'm joint 8th with three others. 26th Feb and 3rd March are popular days.
Smartcat, I'm glad your SPD was a lot better today. It's amazing how good it feels to have a day where you just feel well and normal. I remember my first day without indigestion or nausea after I'd had them solidly for 2 months. My PGP is getting so bad that I get terrible sharp pains in my buttocks even when doing nothing, and relaxing on the sofa just isn't relaxing. I'd been really lucky up until now with it not affecting me in bed, but it's been getting worse and I woke after a few hours sleep to agony from my bump down to my thighs. I'm concerned whether sitting on my ball makes me worse the next day. I wonder how soon after the birth we'll feel better?
Squ1rrel, I've been told our uterus is always contracting and we don't often feel it. Also that it's possible to feel Braxton Hicks from 16 weeks. Therefore I don't even know for sure whether I've had any, as I've often felt my bump go hard and there have been times when I thought the baby was in an uncomfortable position causing me some pain and later thought it might have been that. So I think you're not unusual to be feeling them now.
I ordered my EPO, Arnica tablets and raspberry leaf tea capsules off Amazon last night. That's more money spent which is making me feel uncomfortable. I guess if I realise that I'm unlikely to have a foreign holiday this year then that more than offsets the baby spend so far. Then I ordered a half price Pink Lining changing bag to make my self feel better, even adding a half price Mum on the Run bag to make me feel REALLY better. :rotfl:Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Kynthia I've read the same. I think I started to feel them around 20 weeks.
I can tell the difference because normally only my right side is hard as that's where the baby lays, but when I get a BH it goes hard on both and recently has started to feel a bit uncomfortable.
It normally happens when I'm in bed on my side or back. If I move it tends to go away fairly soon. I don't really like it it's kind of a stretchy feeling.0 -
Good luck for your sweep today jemb
I've had a long sleep, then going into town to send my nieces birthday gifts to Australia and pick up some last minute bits, witch hazel gel as recommended here (thanks) and extra maternity pads as friends have said its amazing how many you get through post birth. A little walk will do me good, hoping I don't get rained on as coat no longer does up.fran-o0 -
SmlSave, would you be expressing or using formula with the bottle? Last night the midwife was even against expressing milk
I'm going to try expressing to start with and see how it goes. I'm hoping I can hire an electric pump to try out before buying one - I already have a manual.
I'm afraid I found the midwives/hv's pretty much useless with bf in my area. To 'help' they'd just grab my breast and DS and bash us together  Thankfully I had the NCT breastfeeding consultants number and she got us sorted. :A I will support the NCT forever because of her help. (and she makes amazing cakes)
I hope the sofa comes tomorrow safely Faerie(although he did genuinely ask me a few days before she was born how long it would be before her eyes opened as his only experience was of kittens and puppies...)Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Good luck with the sweep Jemb!
Trying not to freak out that I'm #5 on the list!
I wonder how long SPD pains will carry on after birth too... hoping it won't be long as I'm hobbling everywhere now!
Kynthia, I wish I hadn't looked at what a 'Mum on the run' bag was- so cute!
Re: Arnica tablets, do we start taking them before birth or just start afterwards? I'm getting such a stash of tablets to take now!
Slept really well last night and feel so much better today for it! Amazing the difference it makes! OH slept well too (he's been really bad recently, think he's constantly worrying about me going into labour!) so we're both happy!
I can't decide if I've been having some BH or if it's just baby moving!Sometimes I feel a tightening feeling, but it's always followed by a cross feeling wriggle so kind of just feels like big movements whenever it happens.
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
