  • Claire - the epidural which is what might seem most scary is the one which doesn't actually leave you feeling drugged or spaced out. Diamorphine the first time gave me lovely fuzzy feeling like I was floating on clouds but felt more like being slightly tipsy than drugged. The second time it took the edge off the pain a bit but didn't have any other effect. Bet they gave me a lower dose - Meh! :rotfl:
G&A made me feel drugged out and high as a kite, felt almost removed from what was happening. Maybe I was taking too much lol! With Dd1 I wanted to go in the pool but it wasn't available so they offered diamorphine instead. Sometimes wonder what the pool would have been like although she was back to back which makes for v painful labour so maybe just as well I got the drugs :p

Re babies turning - they can do it really late on. I'd cancelled my tens machine cos little Miss was breech then she turned round at the last minute!

Kynthia - that sounds like a nightmare! With our house they really messed us about. While we didn't pull out what we did do was get them to pay stamp duty cos we were going to miss the cut off date for not paying it due to a govt scheme at the time. We also eventually withdrew our deposit from our solicitors, who were then obliged to inform the other parties and from nothing being able to be done, hey presto everything was ready to exchange contracts two days later and we moved 2 weeks after that.

Faerie - hope your house gets sorted. It's frustrating when you want to do things but can't.

Birdie - I sympathise, I've got cold and sore throat too and not sleeping well. Mind racing about all sorts of nonsense. Enjoy your nap. I have to keep awake to look after DD2.

Mrs Happy - enjoy your nap too. I'm getting jealous of all these naps. I wanna go under the duvet too :p

Sunshine - good luck for your scan. The so exciting to find out! :)

My mind is on one of the ladies at pregnancy yoga. She couldnt make it last night as her waters have broken at 33 weeks and she was in hospital. Hope her and baby are ok. I think it scared everyone a little bit though.

Hope everyone feeling yukky/stressed feel better soon *hugs*

Good luck sunshine, most of the babies due in May/June seem to be girls at the moment!
  • Hi again everyone I kind of lurk on this thread but don't post very much, I'm not 24 weeks until Sunday :)

Kynthia just wanted to comment to say sorry to hear about your house stress, we are buying at the moment and it is quite stressful. Can you have some choice words with your solicitors and tell them in no uncertain circumstances that they should let the sellers solicitors know you are pretty much ready to pop with a baby, so if they don't start moving along within the next week you will be forced to think very carefully about pulling out or offering less money as a result?

I really hope similar doesn't happen with us, luckily our sellers have already moved out so we would hope there would be no delay in them formally signing but you never know :(
Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

    Maternity leave fund: £3000/£6000 :T

Back to back - ouch! Its the stuff like that thats out of our control I dont like.

Thats good to know the diamorphine was quite good for you. Im still undecided and sure I will be until it happens, Id just hate to feel out of control or sick because I dont like those feelings, like I dont like feeling drunk even. I dont mind anything make me feel high as a kite or fuzzy though - when I came round from a general anaesthetic I felt amazing! Ive never done any type of drugs or anything but it made me wonder if thats what it was like because Id never felt like that before lol!

What was really interesting was that the teacher said that the royal college of anesthetists or such like, rate the top pain reliver as the epidural, then g&a, and then diamorphine and pethadine.

Which surprised us all as youd expect G&A to be at the bottom, but I guess its so easy to administer, if you dont like it you just stop taking it and so its just the easiest thing to start with. And the maybe even if the pethadine/diamorphine is rated lower, its more the combination of the two that helps?

Re back to back babies - spending a while on all fours every day is supposed to help babies to 'swivel' round!

A back to back birth can be around 10 hours longer than a straight forward birth! eeek  Something to be avoided if at all possible.

The problem is most of us sit down/ slouch far too much these days.
One exercise we do at yoga that is really good for positioning babies she calls the malteaser move. So you get on all fours, lean back onto your heels and then pretend to blow a malteaser along the floor in front of you.
For sitting down the key is to keep your knees lower than your hips. So if the ball isn't working maybe try a dining chair?

NCT was really good last night, 6 other couples all "around" our age (I'd say late 20s to late 30s).
We brainstormed what we wanted to learn/get out of the class, men and women separately. You should have seem some of the things the guys put on their sheet! But they also had some really good questions us ladies hadn't put down.
Then went through the stages of labour with some big pictures. We had to discuss what mum/baby would be feeling/needing at each point and what dads should be doing to help.
We finished with a demonstration of massage that you should be giving mum to be "every other day" for at least 20 mins! :D

Breast feeding session on Monday night, with a specialist counsellor.

sunshine81 hope your scan went well. Lurking to find out whether you're team pink or blue.

Kynthia what a cr*ppy day, I'd have been a weepy mess by the end of that day! Hope you're felling better today.

Sjlou - that is exactly what I did at my first nct class!

Except the massage got pushed back to week 2 because we took too long on the other bits & coffee break went on a bit! :)

And same here in regards to what the men wrote!

Was there also a few of the guys looking like a rabbit caught in the headlights!?
There was one in particular who looked a combination of scared/bewildered all night!

  • All this talk of turning/back to back babies makes me chuckle as my mum loves to remind me I decided to turn around half way through (admittedly very short) labour! Apparently even the doctors and midwives were speaking blue at me for it!

All quiet here - lots of little movements from bubs and a cracking headache since about 10am but that's all. The kind that sends your eyes crazy! Off to a tournament this weekend and it will be the first time pretty much everyone has seen my bump heheh! Plenty of health(ish) snacks and food packed (breakfast included at the hotel and evening meals will be a take away/Harvester) ready to keep me going at the venue!

    Hi ladies,
Hope the sleep deprived ladies have managed a nap... Kynthia, hope you are having an easier day and the solicitors are fighting your corner for you. Sunshine, hope your scan was all positive!

I had a nice morning with a friend popping in for a cuppa. Did a little housework then watched a movie. Just been listening to my hypno birth cd, should be listening more often, no excuse now I'm overdue! Hoping hubby agrees to a date night tonight (pizza in town with a voucher!) :)
