  • MrsBunny - I'm bf my little dude. I thoroughly recommend lansinoh cream (cheap on amazon at the mo I believe). Buy a few different types of breast pads as, like nappies on babies, some work better than others. I personally prefer TT ones. I bought a couple of nursing nighties from mothercare but cannot stand wearing a bra in bed but pads have a sticky on back so I just stick them to my nightie. The first week or so it's best to sleep on a big soft towel as you will flood with milk no matter what you wear but soon after, your breasts will adjust. I was surprised at how many clothes I am able to feed in. I have a button through shirt that is my easiest top but also vest tops under a normal top are good. I only have 4 nursing bras as do the washing every other day anyway. I bought a pack of bra extenders which were great for when my boobs were larger sometimes than others.

Re: equipment. I express the odd time I get a bit engorged (if baby randomly sleeps longer) and keep it in the freezer. Sometimes hubb/DD's will want to feed him plus I like to have spare in case I'm ever poorly (haven't been but you never know lol). Avent have storage cups that you can screw on to pump then write date on and store in freezer (or fridge if needed soon), they're handy. I used breast shells in the beginning - you pop one on a boob while feeding with the other and I could collect a few ounces this way without expressing. Obv you sterilise the stuff first. I have a microwave TT steriliser and after 4mins, you're ready to go. Some use nipple shields if it's really painful in the beginning but I personally have never used them.

The first week is hard, the second is a bit easier but after that, it's so much easier. Muslins are great for covering up your dignity when out and about and mothercare have some fab facilities if baby wants feeding when you're out (rocking chairs, iced water for mom etc). A pack of 6 bottles was more than I've needed so far.

    Hope I've covered everything. Xx

    Thankyou angelmommy and marywooyeah. :D

I'm just so overwhelmed with everything at the moment and emotions are high that I am freaking out over the silliest of things. I think once I finish work on Friday I can plan and get things done in the day I will be much calmer.

Sam, I don't know the term CTG but they strapped two circular units to my tum for 30 mins. These seemed to measure the heart rate and check for any contractions in my uterus, and the two meant the heart beat was picked up for the whole time without having to follow the baby round like with the sonic aid they use at antenatal appointments. Baby's rate would jump up to 164 then slump to 135, before then settling at 142 for a while again. :) They also checked my temperature, blood pressure and urine, plus asked me about any pain and discharge. We were home 90 mins after setting off so I really advocate anyone calling up and going in if you're worried.

I do think that midwife is right and I'm having a girl, but I'm trying not to get carried away as there's just as much chance I'm having a little Matthew/Liam/Euan/Owen/Neal/Rian/Thomas. As you can see we haven't picked a name yet. :rotfl:

Cupoftea - take a look at the kiddicare website to get a good idea of a competitive price for things. I don't know enough to know what a good price was but Kiddicare seem to always be the same or less than other places. I got a good price for the growbag and swaddle blanket. Plus I paid a bit more for a multi-coloured cellular blanket there as I'm fed up with everything being white, and even though the Mamas and Papas one is much nicer it costs over £35!

Mrsbunny - try not to worry. Apart from some clothes, a car seat and somewhere to sleep, you don't need to have absolutely everything before baby arrives. Honestly after a couple of days when you have a better idea of what you want and need you could send your OH or a family member out to Mothercare or the local supermarket and buy what you need, plus with the internet you can have stuff delivered to your door in 1-2 days. There's so many shops around selling all that you need, you really don't have to panic.

Claire - it's always so nice to receive good customer service. I don't know why some places find it so hard.

Today we went shopping again, as we have to do short bursts with my inability to walk much, and bought the Angelcare monitor with pressure mat. John Lewis had matched the price on Amazon so we bought it there and then with a fabric bath seat. Plus I was reassuring myself that the Silvercross Wayfarer was definitely better than the Uppababy Vista when I realised the baby would be sat very low down compared to my and OH's heights. So even though the Vista is no-where near and pretty and quite heavy with giant wheels, it feels like it suits us much more. There's nothing like seeing your two choices next to each other. Annoying as Silvercross has much better colours. :(

Well I think today has prompted me to start my hospital bag a week earlier than planned. 35 weeks tomorrow. So this week as well as working full time I'm also having a physio appointment, getting the whooping cough vaccine, submitting my tax return, hopefully seeing the house we're buying, hopefully exchanging contracts, arranging building's insurance, and possibly arranging life insurance, arranging how we're going to pack and move, and packing my bag. Hmmm, I can't wait until I finish work on Friday as I'm just to busy to have a job right now. :rotfl:

With regards to life insurance some places are offering new parents their first year 'free' so if you are looking at getting some anyway they might be worth looking at.
Think we might got for life assurance instead similar to what my parents had for me and my brother growing up - mine matured a few years ago and desire asking we still aren't 100% on how much I have in there so it's just been sat there growing (in theory, unless the interest has bottomed out) for the past few years.

Seem to be lacking in energy this morning, I think its because I was speaking to bf at 1am (8pm in Canada) for ten minutes and I remembered that I have antenatal class tonight with his mum so I figured there isn't much point in getting to work that early as she won't be meeting me there until 30mins after my usual end time.

Little frustrating remembering that though as I have a few things I want to get done at home (clean bathroom, a load of laundry, change the bed) and now I won't get home until 9pm or thereabouts! Not too bad as I might do the load of laundry tonight and just do the other two in the morning before bf gets back.

So edited to have him home! Skype does make the time go faster but that's meant I've seen more people/done more than usual whilst he's been away so that's had the opposite effect. Will be nice to get him home and look after him for a bit, off to buy some plasters and cuticle balm today as he's basically shredded his cuticles whilst training and playing. Not got long though as this Friday we head off to the second domestic league fixture! Luckily that means a three day working week for me (Mon, Wed, Thurs) and a two day one for him (Thurs, Fri) so at least I will get a full day with him tomorrow (he's due home around 11am) and a few hours on Friday before we meet up with everyone else at the hotel :-)

CupofTea - Would you like to be added to the list? If so can I have your due date and team if you know?

lushlifesaver - bet you can't wait for OH to be home. I won't be home until the same time as I have a work event that goes on until about half eight so will be back about nine. I won't see my little boy tonight as he will be a sleep when I get home :(

durham_girl- Updated the list thank you. Hope you are getting on ok!

Kynthia - sounds like the hospital and midwives were really good. I remember what you are talking about - prints a trace. You definatly are too busy to be at work!

MrsBunny - Breast feeding is as much a mine field as bottle feeding. It is hard but it does get easier and if you have a breast feeding group near you its well worth going. As I got near my due date with DS I got more nervous and anxious. Its completly normal. Hope you feel ok today :)

    marywooyeah - your added :)

claire16c - Good to hear you sorted the paint out - free pot of paint for a complaint - I like that response!

con1888 - What colour are the bridesmaid dresses? Glad you had advice, sometimes bridal shops are unbelievably not helpful!

AFM - big work event tonight which me and my work mate have been organising. Its been so much work but hoping it all goes well. Got to get moving!

Congrats Bambisbelle! Lovely news! I had two date twins when I started here now both have their babies...!

Re breastfeeding clothes, I've got some sleep bras (mainly for securing pads) and three drop down vest tops which I could wear under a baggy top (top up, vest down to feed). I've been given a couple of nursing tops in different styles second hand from a friend. I also heard the advice that a bump band can hide your tum of you're lifting your top to feed which might be an option. If I decide to keep nursing for a while (that's my hope) I will invest in a few new nice nursing tops, have seen some at jojo maman bebe and vertbaudet online which look nice. But not going to buy those til I'm sure they'll be useful.

Had a dream last night where I got a show and also stepped on the scales to see my new weight - nearly four stone over start weight! So woke up this morning and got on the scales for first time in ages and it's more like a twenty pound weight gain....but still no show!

Midwife appt this morning, getting a lift from dad as the walk there is be getting slower and slower!

    Have a good day x
