I would like to breast feed at first (to make sure they get the colostrum) but I don't like the thought of it, I find it all quite overwhelming to be honest, I'd like to have swapped to bottles by 6 weeks ish, but I feel so horrible like I'm being a nasty mother?!
18+5 today
Why don't you just wait and see how you feel at the time? There is no need to decide anything until it actually happens. Then you also won't be stressing yourself out about it now.
I'm really looking forward to it so I know Ill be devastated if it didn't work out for some reason but for now all I can do is do research and make sure I have numbers and times of local support groups etc. I can't do anything more than that.
For me the thought of it not working & of dealing with sterilising, bottles and powder and the cost really freaks me out but if it's something I have to do I guess Ill just have to get over it at the time. No point worrying about that now0 -
I've nearly finished packing our bags now. Little Pea's is done its just a few bits for me like clothes to go home in.
Got another scan on wednesday (36 weeks) to check on the fibroid that they found on my 20 week scan. Hopefully it wont have grown or be causing any problems.
Lovely hearing about all the new babies- I'm 9th now- eek!April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£1500 -

We're planning on combination feeding - I'll breast feed exclusively for 6 weeks then plan to move on to expressed breast milk.
You need to do what feels right for you - and anyone who tries to make you feel guilty needs a good talking to!
Had a really productive morning at work - catching up on clearing my little back log of paperwork that needed filing, emails, various things that needed putting in to writing.
I have now planned the next seven weeks and set out my tasks for each week. Slightly odd to see my list of tasks getting smaller and much less specific but very helpful to have planned out what I already knew I needed to get done as I've been putting it off as it's been looking rather daunting!************************************

I intended to breastfeed but it didn't happen for various reasons, although we did manage a little colostrum (baby wouldn't latch, I had a crash c section which seemed to send my body into shock and I didn't produce any milk for about 3 weeks, and baby's temperature was unstable and he needed regular feeding in hospital). I was really upset at first but now there are several advantages of formula feeding for us and baby is doing well so it's not worth beating yourself up about (or letting anyone else criticize you for). It's lovely that OH can feed baby regularly, I feel a lot better knowing exactly how much milk baby has had (I'm a bit of a control freak in that respect), and I feel more like myself more quickly than I think I would have done had breastfeeding worked for us.
In terms of sterilising bottles, preparing formula, it's not really much of a faff. I'd have to sterilise bottles if I was BFing and expressing anyway, and it takes about 2 minutes. I have a Perfect Prep machine to prepare formula which is easy to use, and use preprepared bottles when out and about.
It is your body and your choice. DO NOT let anyone criticize you for making the choices that are right for you and your baby.0 -
I'm very sorry to Que jump but an hour after posting late last night my waters broke just as I was dropping off to sleep.
Charlie Paul was born very fast at 5am weighing 7lb 11oz.
Was sent to the ward at about 4am, had bad tummy pain so asked for a bath. Once I was in the bath the pain got much worse and I was examied and told I was 10 cm? (bit blurry) and had to get out of the bath to be taken to delivery suite. Poor dh was half way home and had to turn back. Got to delivery suite two pushes and he was out. Dh missed him by 5 minutes :-(
As charlies is slightly prem 36+3 he has now been taken to special care baby unit for test as he is grunting a lot. Had 7 hours skin to skin as his temp was up n down but ok now.
On mobile so prob missed bits out but mw just been saying I can now go and visit him. XxxProud mummy to an amazing 8 year old!0 -

If you decide that breast feeding isn't for you fireyfirenze then it's your choice and you shouldn't feel guilty about it. You may find it as overwhelming as you think it will be or easy-peasy, everyone is so different.
There's soo much to feel guilty about as a mum!

Congrats Bambisbelle and MrsB. Hope Charlie us out of SCBU soon x
Fireyfirenze - Ill be honest I do feel quite put off by the idea of BF. I think its due to seeing people struggle over the years, and although I know its 'best' for the baby, I still feel reluctant even now.
I'm going to see how I feel when the time comes, and have so far told MWs etc I will NOT be BF, so there is no pressure when the time comes. I do feel VERY guilty and judged though when the topic comes up. And have had many people try to 'convince' me to BF. Don't be hard on yourself, it's YOUR baby and you are the one who has to make these choices not anyone else. X0
