Not done the sewing as lurgy is ramping up and I don't want to pass on lurgy with the presents. may have to go to doctor's as it's about 10 days and the lurgy isn't shifting.

Found backing and lining material for the stocking and I get the 'prize for most creative use of a crowbar' . Tried to arrange the room so that things I need are accessible and at waist height or above (can't bend forward or down). Material was stored in three large baskets pushed under a desk but sat on a chair and 'hooked' them forward with the crowbar. Quickly established that largest basket wasn't the correct one so pulled the others up onto the large basket so I could look through without and 'banned' movements.

Have red velvet, red satin, some red check 'camper van curtain' material (heavy cotton) and some green gingham - will decide which works best later.

Slept, read and dozed most of the day, really given the lurgy every chance to work it's way through my system. Will set a new list when I can - sewing should be done this week even if I have to wear a face mask.

    Hello everybody,

So far, did the polishing job and cleaned the toilet. The decluttering has consisted upon deleting computer bookmarks, sorting out the fridge freezer, using up food items and miscellaneous recycling/rubbish. Collected more prunings this morning in case tomorrow onwards the weather will be unfit. Also, the sweetener consumption has reduced so far. One order has been made for a Christmas present. No delivery charge as included some of my regular purchases (buy one get one half price) and hence will be 2015 food storecupboard items. Other Xmas/New Year tasks are being worked upon.

The predicted adverse weather will probably mean more time indoors so hope to keep busy doing useful things. Hope everybody is doing okay as possible.

Feeling slightly better today so want to spend more time sitting than in bed so set myself the tasks of tidying (walking round with my grabber stick) - can't do mopping and only bits of sweeping so trying to get up as many bits as possible. Also going to tackle the diy tools - brought them up here in case anything were needed (painting stuff I am not going to touch for the next six months so it's under the stairs behind the freezer) but will look through, sort where possible and hopefully any cardboard, plastic or tin boxes (rusty) can go in the recycling.

Have ripped up all cardboard boxes as I have unpacked, need to look through a couple of other boxes and see if I really need the things in them or can find a home for them eg yoga band might go in with undies as I need to have empty baskets to put the Christmas decorations in and excess decorations need to go.

Hi, hope everybody is doing okay. Just a few things to add about last weeks list:-

Decluttering - used up some saved Xmas items, began to organise foraged food from late Summer/Autumn 2014, a bag consisting of straw from the store room used to cover a young(ish) strawberry plant from frost and used batteries all together for recycling next week.
Prunings - collected by the council.
Sweeteners - a 13.8 % improvement compared to last week.
Xmas/New Year - also purchased a few small gifts online combined with my food grocery order and obtained a few reductions locally too.
Selected a Xmas card but will just write a few lines within. Undecided about the graveyard visit due to distance and weather conditions (pedal bicycle transport) plus find it difficult generally.

Will be back as soon as possible with next weeks list.

Sewing still not done as lurgy is very reluctant to leave (not painful any more just irritating little cough and blocked sinuses + aching head, ears).

Have put second willow obelisk 'tree', done several loads of washing, made my bed (have used 4 sheets, so I can peel off the top one each week, to save bending and heavy lifting), cooked several pans of soup and some mini quiches and made jelly. Keeping on sorting and tidying, finding places for things (kitchen looks like a kitchen) and packing things for the charity shop.

Persuaded DS3 to take back 4 overdue library books (using the home delivery service atm - could walk to the library but can't carry books) and gave him a bag for the charity bin and a bag for the food bank (both have collection points in the library). The building facing the house (used to be a doctor's surgery, now used by a charity) has a hopper for clothes and bedding on the car park and I have taken a couple of bags there.

Planning to start new bags for specific charities, will have to find somewhere to hide them till I can walk and carry further. PDSA will take scrappy towels (people ask them for 'dog' towels). Sent a huge sack before my op (some good ones as well) which had been left by DS2 but have found the odd one that was still drying or hadn't been unpacked. Red Cross does lots of craft stuff and have several books to go to them (will finish off oddments I am using them for once these Christmas presents are out of the way). Still waiting to hear from a local organisation to see if they can use the spare kettle and other kitchen things DS2 has left me with.

Doing things to get organised as DS3 is going away to his gf's family for Christmas (also possibility of bad weather). Paid to have a new lock on the front door (DS2 broke a key in the lock a while ago and it would only lock and unlock from the outside. The black rubbish and brown (plastics/cans/glass) bins have been moved to outside the kitchen door (so I don't have to go down the yard if it's icy or snowy and the blue (paper) bin is nearly full and the green (garden waste) will be too (chopping back the overgrown ivy in 5 minute chunks). I will remind him to put the bins for next week out before he goes away and if he's not back by new year DS2 can do the others - he's going to come and tie my shoelaces and fill my water bottles.

Have been downstairs in my slipper boots once this week (didn't feel safe enough earlier) and I can re-fill one of the bottles myself (it's only 1.25 l others are 2l) but not going to tell DS3 as he will stop doing those jobs for me. I am managing to do more but everything takes a long time and in some cases, I have to plan how I am going to do each stage.

I have used the oven but I have to stand next to it, pull the handle and let it's own weight make it drop down. I put the things onto a tray, then I sit down next to the oven(allowing space for my operated leg to be straight, not bent) to lift the tray from the stove top onto the shelf. I put my arm down by my side to flick the door back up and then stand again to turn the oven on. Last week I had to put my grabber stick inside an oven glove to pull something back out of the oven. It works but it's slow.

Good luck with this week's lists and remember to take a little time out each day so you don't get stressed (even if you end up doing the 6am wrestle with a non- defrosting turkey).

  • Ok, so popping back in so as to get in the swing of list making and job completing before the new year and hopefully new challenge/ thread.

    1) finish writing xmas present list, not too much left to buy, but need to go through who has what and who needs what, as I have a big shopping day on weds to finish off.
    2) xmas cards written, need to finish writing envelopes and post them.
    3) put together a few photos for a little photo book of my dad for me, my sister and my mum.
    4) make sure I start tying things up at work as have managed to wangle a week off. Always like to start a new year with very little on the work list.
    5) finish writing the xmas food list to do a shop
    6) stop eating!! - lose weight
    7) book optician appt - been putting this off
    8) go for a blood test.

Right that's enough to keep me going for a bit. And now it's written I have to do it.

    Have a good week everyone.

This weeks list from Sunday until the end of Saturday:-

Things to sort out/out of the house -
    a) Batteries for recycling.
    b) Foreign coins collected this year to check for any worth (probably not any) so to charity shop.
    c) Maybe go to a local "closing down" shoe shop, consider re-soling old boots or leave until next year.
    d) Sort out wild birds area in the garden.
    e) Graveyard visit still pending until manageable.
    f) Post Xmas card.

    Indoor tasks -
    a) Decrease again sweeteners consumption.
    b) E-bay bid?
    c) Use present food "stocks" over Xmas/New Year and check recipes box for ideas (maybe homemade extra Xmas gifts?).
    d) Continue sorting out foraged food (nuts and blackberries).
    e) Check info about a health supplement.
    f) Any paperwork possible to declutter.
    g) Think of ways to cope with being indoors more, consider how to simplify life and start to make a list of things to do in 2015 especially significant events.

So that will keep me going for a while! Good luck everybody; always interesting to hear how you are going on.
