A chequebook definitely can't be used as a distinctive feature.
That definition was for a current account, not a basic bank account, and was researched on google (not wiki!). As I say, current accounts 'usually' come with a chequebook, or did when many of these banking definitions were made.
I think many (most?) basic current accounts don't come with a chequebook.
    I don't think any do.
  • As i wait for YBS to accept my application seeing as im sending my passport, i ventured into basic accounts finding out nationwide offer a cash card account. I phoned them and asked if they do a credit check on this account and they don't. She said even though i have bad credit, i still should get accepted as people that apply for the flex current account usually get rejected and offered this one.
In my case i got declined, im thinking the woman fave me false information and as i applied online, i got rejected. I may go directly into nationwide with my bankruptcy discharge papers (when i receive) them and directly ask them to open a cash card account for me, as there i cant pose as any risk on this type of account without the access of a chequebook or overdraft..

    What good will that do?

You said recently that your CRA files (all 3 of them) show you as being discharged. Since Nationwide will already know that (from the [possibly ID enquiry only] search they've made of your CRA file), what's the point in showing a branch advisor a bit of paper saying the same thing?
  • Well when i finished the application.

It said they are unable to give me an account based on the information i have given them. I gave them all the information they needed :-s
  • Im thinking along the same lines that natwest dont give out current accounts unless you go in with the discharge papers.

Maybe i have been credit checked with nationwide, and they have gave me false information saying they wouldn't credit check me on the cash card account. Just dont get it

For info, Natwest/RBS are totally unconnected with YBS.

    That is not strictly true.

If you check the sort code page on the ybs website, you will find that they bank at Natwest.

Yes, the Yorkshire BS bank with NatWest, it's no secret. Most of the building societies bank with one of the major clearing banks, -except Nationwide who do their own clearing. It doesn't mean that YBS are connected to NatWest, -which they aren't.

Indeed, that is the case, Coventry for example use HSBC, they just get given a couple of sort codes, ie one for normal business/chaps/swift etc

I was wondering if Natwest checked the OP as well as YBS, especially as the OP had a previous relationship with Natwest?

Surely that must be the easiest check for Natwest to perform?
