I work with the public and when someone notices I'm married, next comes the "do you have children?" then "Oh, why not?"

I'm a very private person and I feel that it's pretty inappropriate to have strangers so interested in my sex life (lol). Strangely enough, my husband doesn't get grilled by people to the same extent. A simple "no, I don't have children" usually stops people asking him.

I had a lovely lady tell me that, as a "nice person" it was my duty to have children so there would be more nice people in the world. That was weirdly sweet of her.

I was chatting to a wonderful, successful lady who worked in healthcare and she asked if I had children. When I told her that I wasn't interested in children, she told me that, although she has a son, he was a nightmare (and apparently continues to be, although he's now married with children of his own) and she wished she hadn't given in to the pressure her family put on her to have a child.

My mother continues to drop hints about grandchildren. I'm an only child so it's difficult :(

Had a couple of comments over the festivities, mainly around how "great I was with my nieces" and "its such as shame that we don't have any", its not difficult, they are good fun and I can get the little one to laugh like a drain, just by moving an eyebrow.

Doesn't mean I have changed my mind I still don't fancy the responsibility and change in lifestyle choices available.

We chose to be child free and have no regrets. We like living in an adults world !

The thing we do hate is also having to suffer other people's children who can NEVER do anything wrong !!!!!!
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
  • I always thought I wanted a child, but this year having been around my cousin's son, I am so happy I can hand him back... decided children are really not for me, I like being selfish! lol

^^This. I've been lucky, and not had to endure too many badly-behaved children, but it still bugs me when I do.

I've stopped seeing certain friends at their homes as they've become incapable of holding an adult conversation because little Johnny is running around terrorising folk. Easier just to see them in a group setting somewhere else instead, where at least there will always be other people to talk to.
