I am just puzzled as to why you receive more than Tesco otherwise state.

because it has been working incorrectly? but has now been corrected?

You are right in terms of being able to use the Tesco Bank credit card as a Clubcard before choosing to continue paying by it or using another card.

I bought £25 of fuel from them today, and got 25 points.

so, can anyone concur with this. ie. that there is a loophole that still exists?

Wel according to the Tesco website, using just clubcard, you get 1 point per £1 spent.

If you use clubcard and pay with Tesco credit card, you get 2 points for every £1 spent (plus the usual 1 TPF point for every £4 spent)

No, no, no - do not use your ordinary card first then pay with your Credit Card, if you want the most points. The system will allocate points in relation to the card used - e.g. key fob 1 point per £2.00 + tpf points. Only use the credit card to get 2 points for every £2.00 + tpf if paid by as well.

i'm not sure that you can win that argument, as i think this was a mistake that has been rectified, rather than a change to the deal.
It's confirmed on their web site which would be seen as an extension to T&Cs.
my Tesco account has a BT on it, and i cut up the card. if it is useful purely as a clubcard, i will request a replacement;)
I use about £160 a month in diesel, invariably Tesco. So c1,000 points a month is handy to top up the air miles with.

Only if you pay with your Tesco credit card too like the OP. Otherwise, doublebagging the points is a loophole.

You don't need a Tesco credit card and the risks of holding such if you just want a clubcard.

If you need a new clubcard, you can get an application in store or follow the advice here
    http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/lost-clubcard/

If you end up with a new clubcard account, you can always link it to your existing account :)

Well this thread got long without me realising! Quick update - I've checked my clubcard account online.

On 1 Dec, I bought £43 petrol, used Tesco CC as a clubcard but not payment - 43 points awarded.

On 4 Dec, I bought £50 petrol, Tesco CC as CC and to pay, 25 points for fuel, 12 points for CC spend.

All my fuel spends prior to December awarded 1 per pound in addition to the credit card 1 per £4 bonus (if I used the CC to pay, which I rarely did). So it's obviously a new development! Shame!

Were these purchases from the same petrol station?

Sorry, my mistake. I've gone and got this direct from Tesco again. What would they know about their own policy?

But what it says there is correct, but as it relates to the credit card that the right info, and as they are promoting the use of the credit card why would they need to put what would happen if you paid any other way!
But besides, if anyone is unsure of the points being given - look in 'my clubcard account' under current points - for the most recent transactions - provided the credit card is linked to the on-line card.

Gosh, hasn't this post expanded since I last checked yesterday!

[Text removed by MSE Forum Team] here are some combined observations:

I'm not convinced it's a change of T&Cs when their website makes no mention of this rate of earning. It's just closing a loophole / IT bug.
    gwapenut wrote: »
FACT 1 is not supported by the Tesco website, and it looks like it was an IT bug that has been closed.
No. I have it in writing* from Tesco that I continue to earn 1 point per pound on fuel transactions when using my Tesco MasterCard as a Clubcard.

    * actually inserts from snailmail statements and direct mail.

Was it really there about mastercard holders earning double points?
    No. See response above.

Why don't you call Tesco and ask why you receive more points than they advertise?

Oh dear. This is the most substantive evidence so far and does look like an unannounced change in terms and conditions.

I've been away and haven't bought fuel at Tesco this month. I'll check and see what happens next time.
