Co-op have of mid this year made it a policy to decline any BR or D-BR unless they had signed up to an account or had an already opened account.

Can you show me where it says that co op cashminder will not accept discharged bunkrupts??

My point is that you have decided to, without experience imo, class all CIFAS markers as a means for banks to blacklist a person.

This is not the case, unless you wish to show precedent.
It's that banks who decided, not I. Many stories here, on BBC - everywhere. One doesn't need any 'experience' to read them and see the picture.
Banks understand the difference between a lower classification CIFAS marker (where id fraud is committed against the aggrieved party) as opposed to the upper end where the party in question has been proven to falsify information.
Of course they understand. However they seem to have decided that it was easier not to bother with extra checks/risks and just reject new applications or close existing accounts.
But then, with certain people, CIFAS is a conspiracy theory ;)
It's the reality, not a theory. It was a good system until the banks recently started misusing it.

You haven’t had any CCJ’s, been declared bankrupt or defaulted on any credit agreements in the last 6 years

those terms are for a current account..not a cashminder account. The co op will accept discharged bankrupts for a basic cashminder account...loads of threads on the br board.
So there must be something else here.
Do you have a credit union in your area? I have good reports on them

Requested an application pack in the post for ybs.

Nearest branch is 45 miles :(

Thats why i may need a nearer branch that offers a savings account with same features.

And i checked out the basic accounts, its only co op and barclays that offer the non credit check accounts :(

You can't get a savings account with a debit card. Your options are:
    • YBS Cash Transactor
    • Coventry Building Society Callsave Money Manager
    • Trying the Halifax Easycash or Natwest BASIC account
    • paying £14.95 a month to Thinkmoney to guarantee an account

I need an account with a debit card so i can atleast pay for things online, ybs offers a link card, but not sure if its a visa debit card..

Pretty sure natwest 'basic' account does a credit check too.

Can someone explain CIFAS to me and why they think its getting in the way? Im really confused about it

CIFAS is a fraud marker. It is placed there either at your instigation or a bank's. Basically, either you committed fraud or lied on an application in the past.

YBS and CBS do not come with a debit card - only cash card.

I would try Halifax Easycash to see what happens. If that fails there is the last option of Thinkmoney card which charges and comes with a Debit Mastercard
  • Ive already tried the halifax easycash account and got declined.

Im with cardonebanking which is £12.50 a month and they give you a mastercard debit card.

Just a pain when it charges £1.50 per withdraw too, and difficult to pay cash into it aswell you have to 'buy' a paying in book!!

I don't think i'd have any fraud markers against me!! And how would i know if i did?? Doesnt say anything on my credit file..

  • Do you not think it's worth appealing co op's decision??

    Afterall i am discharged!
