    Tenth Anniversary
My phone was showing 60% battery available. I plugged it into the mains charger, it bleeped, showed 1% battery and shut down. I haven't charged it using the USB since I got it, I always use the mains.

I will have to keep an eye on it and see how it goes or do you think I should be returning it to Tesco after one incident?

I must admit I was a little nervous taking it back to the store this morning, having "unlocked" the phone via the ebay link. But judging by the questions I was asked, when a customer brings back an item within 28 day to the store, and if they have the stock in, it looks as if its a straight "swap out". I guess I"m 2 nicker down from the ebay code, but until I hear what exactly the matter might have been I'm going to stick with the supplied Tesco sim, and see how the land lies a few weeks down the line.
Great phone though. Will be interested to hear if any other "cracked" phone behaves like mine, hope not for all MSE"rs out there;)

While it's a great conspiracy theory that Tesco might be killing unlocked Moto G's the reality is that yours just decided to fail and Tesco would not be able to stun your phone unless the IMEI was reported stolen and it was blocked from use.

Unlocking a phone will not cause this sort of problem and the reality is that an unlocked phone will not be refused for warranty repair/exchange etc. Remember Tesco will unlock this phone for you for £20 and the code will be identical to the £2 code from Ebay.

However as some are convinced that unlocking a Moto G is similar to summoning the Devil then feel free to carry on this belief if it pleases you :D

Under "Scanning always available" it says "Let Google's location service and other apps scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is off". That made me think it would be using data as well as battery. Is that not the case?

No it's not the case, WiFi is not cellular data. All it does is pick up SSIDs in range.

As for the aforementioned dead G, there is a trick to bringing them back to life, involves plugging them in and holding the power button down for a while.
  • I recently purchased the MOTO G and really really happy with it. However how do I maximise the ram? I have downloaded a kill processes app, which automayically kills all apps every minute but once they are killed why do they come back on again, apps like facebook, camera, messaging, even after I kill them and sign out and dont open them again. The phone has 1gb ram but even with me regularly killing all apps I can only seem to get the phone ram free up to a max of 55%. How can I make this more efficient? I dont understand what is using up the 500mb. Also if I install the kitkat android upgrade will this wipe all my apps and will it make my phone quicker and more efficient of slower with the increased memory of the new operating system, Thanks

Don't use a process killer. Do not look at your RAM usage. Forget you ever saw it. Android is not Windows, free RAM is wasted RAM, and it manages it accordingly.

KitKat well not wipe any of your data, go ahead.

Does anybody know how to stop it updating to kit kat 4.0 (or whatever it is)

I have read many reviews on this phone and some people had problems after the phone updated to kit kat.

Im not really sure what kit kat is to be honest, i just read quite a few people saying they wish they didnt update it.

Cant i just keep it on regular Android and avoid the software update all together?

Kitkat is just the newest version of Android. To be honest, for every 1 person that complains about the update - there will be at least a 1000 that don't.

I updated mine when I was prompted to - and have had no issues whatsoever. Not something that I would let worry you to be honest.
You'll get a popup on the screen telling you that the update is available and do you want to download it. If you're intent on not updating - just dismiss this notification. Expect to keep seeing the download upgrade "nag" popup every so often though.

Jellybean (the version that your phone is on now) will be in use for a long time to come...so you don't have to worry about apps becoming incompatible. Personally though, I think it's good to keep your phone as up to date as possible.

Mine is updated and it is perfectly fine.

I did have some concerns after seeing a couple of people complaining of poor battery life but seeing as the phone was last charged Sunday night and it's still showing 69% battery, I don't think I have anything to worry about.
