Do they have stock in your local Tesco? Anywhere near Cheshire?

Just asking for a friend :)

Best bet would be to just ring around the stores local to you and ask.

I have been using the Moto G for a week on 3 and am very happy with it. However I seem to be using a lot more data than I did with the Huawei and the Ovivo sim.

I have used the Ovivo sim for 18 months and averaged 200MB a month. Since last Saturday I have used 180MB. I discovered on Wednesday how to switch off Background Data and that has been off since. All I use the phone for is checking Gmail and reading the BBC News app and both of those have used the most data.

Is there any other setting I should be changing?

I stopped using Ovivo as I couldn't access the internet, but that seems to have been resolved so I am going to try it again to see how that goes.

I have just found a setting under Wifi and have turned off Scanning Always Available. Could that be the culprit?
  • Wifi scanning wont be it, more likely location services as that can use data.

I saw in another thread to turn off sync for some of the Google stuff, which I've done. However I thought that wouldn't happen if Background Data was turned off?

Under "Scanning always available" it says "Let Google's location service and other apps scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is off". That made me think it would be using data as well as battery. Is that not the case?

This will perhaps answer the unlocking/warranty question.

It's a code unlock so should not be an issue

In the past it was unlocking by some dodgy bit of software that caused problems

Just an update. Took my handset back to my local Tesco who exchanged it without question. They checked that it would not start up, and swapped it out for similar. I have no idea what happened between last night and this morning, the phone had worked beautifully for 10 days, after a 2 quid unlock code from ebay had been applied, and a "Three" sim put in. Discretion being the better part of valour, I think I'll stick with Tesco PAYG for the moment, and consider getting a PAC code from 3 at a later date. Thought if any kind of "kill code" had been sent out it would have affected more, so looks like it was just a problem for me and my phone.
    All the best
