On this occasion I was concerned enough that I paid with cash. I follow the advice from my bank when it comes to C&P, although most of that is common-sense.
"Remain vigilant and do not allow yourself to get distracted when using your card and PIN at an ATM or when making a purchase in a shop. Remember, always shield your PIN and take your card promptly".
You may think that advising the cashier of a C&P security issue is complaining. I'm not prepared to have my PIN compromised by poorly maintained C&P terminals or shoulder surfing.
I can assure you that the cashier just acknowledged your complaint to get you to shut up about it, and it would not be going any higher.
While I guess you could argue you shouldn't have to, it's so easy to use your other hand to shield your PIN I'm sure a toddler could figure it out.0 -
Of course that post might not have been official. Since it was removed, I'm guessing there was something wrong like the IP address of the poster matching another poster on here, or maybe they requested proof of who they were and didn't receive any?
Either way, I'd take what was stated in that post with a pinch of salt.0 -

But if you ring Aldi customer services and complain, they might send you a nice "You are a valuable customer" letter along with a £30 gift voucher0 -

.
I have hightlighted the main part of that statement.
it is you to shield your PIN, yes some machines have high backs to help shield, and some have shorts backs to help shield and some have no backs, but it is you that needs to shield the pin and not the c & p machine.0 -
Visit to local English Aldi today. I never saw any card signage inside or outside the store, however I did notice this on the back of my receipt.
Some logos but no clues as to whether these refer to credit cards or not. Whichever way, I was unhappy to use my card as there was no shield on the chip&pin terminal. When I pointed this out I got a half-hearted apology from the assistant.
What a fantastic post thank you for sharing this with us.
You were correct to use cash. I dont think I'm the only person who is beginning to have doubts about Aldi !
At my last but one visit to Aldi Bulwell Nottingham the alarm was raised for an attempted robbery.
I would like to point out what i have said before that Aldi do not pay attention to detail.
Customer security and Health and Safety is paramount.
I think people have also missed the point and irony that your picture demonstrates yet another way Aldis lack of attention to detail can misdirect customers.
I think that if a retailer displays the Visa sign and the Mastercard they are duty bound by the agreements with VISA and Mastercard to accept all cards Credit Cards and Debit Cards.
The Official till receipt picture you have posted for us does not include all the cards on the Aldi website only list either.
Could Aldi be breaching a legal agreement with the Credit Card companies?
Well done again Aldi LOL0 -

No as the agreement can stipulate only Debit Cards can be accepted, then each card machine is programmed only to accept debit cards0 -

Thanks for hightlighting the hightlight of my hightlight, although I actually feel you should have hightlighted the part about being vigilant. Almost everyone that has responded to my observation so far has totally missed the point that if you are unhappy with C&P you can always pay with cash (or vouchers).Just broke, even.0 -

If the machine was issued with a sheild to assist the security of Aldis customers then it should be fitted.
Again attention to detail lacking
On our way to Tescos today we passed the Aldi store at Bulwell Nottingham to get prices to compare with Tescos. If an item was more expensive at Tesco we could pop into Aldi on the way back from Tescos. We did not consider any of the items we needed were a better price or value at Aldi.
Our shop Tescos added up tosub total £121.66
after Multibuy savings sub total £116.59
after coupons Final total £91.59
Club card points 221 (Aldi Club Card points is a loyalty system you should consider)
Paid with a Santander Credit Card (the card that was refused by Aldi) which will give us a cash back on the £91.59
Tescos gave us incentives to shop with them and i don't think they will not make a healthy profit on our spend . they don't have Geographical bias like Aldi by banning the use of Credit Cards in the UK except in Scotland , parts of South Wales controlled by Swindon Wiltshire England, and Berwick Upon Tweed.in England.0
