WRONG, they would log in the till £20 cash, so what do they do for the voucher, when the tills are not set up for vouchers, it has still got to be logged onto the till system. Manufacturer vouchers have barcodes so get scanned in. They cant log it as cash and cant log it as a voucher as their is no way to do this.

They certainly can log it as cash - the till doesn't scan what they put into it and spit out the voucher because it's not a £10 note...

And I think you'll find that it's actually very simple. Assuming you are correct that it's impossible to tell the till they have a voucher, they simply enter it into the till as cash. Then when the till is balanced at the end of the day, the paperwork will show that the reason why the till is £30 down is because a £30 voucher has been used.

Why on Earth you care so much about this (even discussing it with an Aldi manager!?) I have no idea. You're starting to look as disturbed as the OP is!

I'm not going to argue further, but I think you'll find out that it is you that is wrong - the staff know how to handle vouchers, and if one cashier does not, they can request help from someone who does. Just drop it already and admit you were wrong from the start.
I spoke the the store manager at my local store and he stated as he has seen this thread the till system are not set up to handle vouchers, so is this another case of 'i am on MSE so i know more than companies themselves' which is the attitude of several MSE users

Callum thank you for your contribution which has merits that I agree with.

How does an Aldi till operator handle sterling notes issued by BOS / Clydesdale / RBS with a serial number on them ?
How does an Aldi till operator handle legal tender coins issued by HM Royal Mint ?

well llke any epos system they state you pay with £20 CASH which will show on the receipt, but as an ALDI store manager told me their system is NOT set up to handle voucher which for anyone IS NOT CASH,so cant be added as cash as for Audit and Tax purposes, the tax man would want to know where the £30 is. it would have been simple for the HQ to add a barcode to any vouchers, as the one that is on that letter, i could reproduce and hand it in at any Aldi as how could they check if it was genuine if the tills are not set up to accept vouchers.

Well, they don't really have to, we use a credit card instead :rotfl:

BTW, I was in Aldi this morning (spending on my credit card and using a 50% off a chocolate santa voucher) and I did not get run over and killed by a run away pallet truck so I will give them a pass on safety today.

Maybe a staff member will complete a cash return showing income in the from of cash and apart from floats and simple petty cash all is banked.

On the balances sheet under others voucher numv ber XXX will be entered for £30.

I consider the simple way to view Tax is that HMRC will ask how much profit have you made. You declare your profit or loss accordingly and pay tax on the profit etc.

Aldi will be able to prove where the £30 is accounted because they have a copy of the letter to me together with a copy of an enumerated £30 gift voucher.

If that fails there is a picture of the Voucher on this forum thread , which I may or may not have mentioned arrived today.

Despite all Aldis failing which I have highlighted they have no reason to worry about working with HMRC.

I have asked the boss here three times when is she going to use this voucher at Aldi.

If I ask her again I fear the worst.

When it is redeemed ill let this forum thread know the first !

I think all Aldi in the UK should be controlled by Bathgate Scotland region those Aldi people are on the ball.!

Did they have any Rainbow Candles in stock in 4 different colours , or welding rods ?

Have you ever used your Credit Card in Aldis in other stores in Scotland , parts of South Wales controlled by Swindon Wiltshire England, and Berwick Upon Tweed in England please?
