She knows we have a history but the time she's here she takes me off places and we spend a lot of time alone so it's not actually that big a deal that they're here. On good days, we don't even see them!

It sounds like these relatives not only arrive uninvited, but also drive you out of your own home, and your fianc!e may know more than you think if she takes you out to avoid them!

You have the perfect excuse to avoid them every year from now on as you will be celebrating your anniversary ;). And if they're so desperate to see mum at Xmas maybe she could stay with them for a change.

I went to San Diego a few years back but only briefly for work. It was somewhere that was on the list to go back to. Originally we had thought about getting married there but there was a lot more availability and choice in Las Vegas for what she wanted (near-enough a midnight wedding) and it tied in quite nicely with heading up to Lake Tahoe for a honeymoon.

She knows we don't get on; she isn't aware of the extent of it but she knows enough. I don't really need to bother her with too many details.

In some respects though it isn't too bad - there's a beautiful private park not too far from here with lovely landscaping and they have their own Christmas displays and such. Even on cold days it's quite a nice place to go for a picnic.

You sound like an amazing person. I've no idea how you can even speak to these people but you do, for your Mother. You must love her very much. Your family must be nuts to miss out on a fab brother/uncle like you.

All the best for your upcoming wedding. I hope you and your new wife have a long and very happy life together.

tropez I have always thought of you as a fantastic poster, witty, funny, intelligent, dry, down to earth, honest, no waffling, just a complete all round great to read poster and always full of love for your soon to be wife:D

I wish you endless happiness with your new life:D:D

I do hope that you can get rid of the awful people that you are putting up with for the sake of your mum and hope that one day you could maybe tell your mum why next year xmas gathering will never happen.

Then in your polite manner tell them all to go....;)

Tahoe is lovely, the lake is crystal clear, it will be colder than San Diego :)

The ida that someone invites themselves to your house without clearing it with YOU first and then one year you announce you are not at home they kick off even though nothing was pre arranged even with their own mother (otherwise they would have known already) is absolutely alien concept to me and quite frankly I might have called mental hospital if some patients havent run off as only a mentally confused person would ever have thought that this is in any way, shape or form all right.
And the idea that 6 weeks of notice to people who didn't even yet said they want to come is not enough... well, words completely fail me!!!

All the best to you Tropez, enjoy!! And great congratulations are in order! Hope your and your fiances life is filled with happiness.

Yeah, I'm expecting Tahoe to be quite cold but that's okay, excuse to wrap up warm and cuddle up! :D
