re nice bottles of Rioja, I went for several of the ultra-cheap wine-buying deals on MSE and now have about five dozen bottles of red (all of which were at half-price or less) stocked up for the rest of the winter - yes on the one hand wine can be seen as an extravagence, I guess, but on the other hand few things content me more in the winter freeze than drinking a glass of red by a roaring fire while having a quiet and otherwise entirely cheap evening at home, and they'll take quite a long time to get through (I never can drink more than a third of a bottle of red in an evening - it's just too rich).

I think you are both quite right to give yourself treats (and cathy MSE treats at that ) once in a while after all your hard work!

oooooo, the Frugal Living challenge - sounds like something I could do with. :) I'll look it up on MSE - thanks for the tipoff, WantToBeSE :)

Re the Bay of E, I need to sell some stuff on there myself. It would help with the savings goal for 2014.

re the Frugal living Challenge- its basically just what i was intending to do anyway, which is live as cheap as possible while saving lots. 2014 is going to be a mix of 'save vs spend'. I'll be saving so that i can move house and get a better car. So basically i'll be saving just to spend again! But it'll be worth every penny to live in a better area :)

Thanks atush :) I wanted those boots for about a year. i kept looking at them and drooling over them, but never really could afford them. I had no savings and spent almost a year unemployed, so it's been a tough 18 months or so. But i am on the way up up up! And definitely deserve a treat!
But i have those beautiful boots now, so no more spending on treats until i have at least £1500 in the bank!

I am pleased to report that my £700 is still intact :) Have been very tempted by several things to buy myself for Christmas, but will resist.

Not really much to report here at the moment.Any spare money is going towards Christmas. Will update more in 2014 i expect.

It's the week of my private client this week, so an extra £30 that i am going to buy some Christmas food with.

Thanks atush :) I must admit all I want to do during the UK winter is hunker down at home with a fire on.

I haven't completely resisted, have bought myself some new bedsocks!! ha ha!! Mind you they are moneysaving because they are a cheap way of keeping warm overnight (well that's my story) :)

    My MSE wine report:

I just ordered 4 cases of wine from tesco, 3 being in the Finest range. Used my clubcard vouchers (on boost so x2) so this wine cost 55 in vouchers and 20 quid, so 75 in negotiable instruments for 130 of wine (which should have cost 150 but I got a discount for volume) so I guess 150 of wine for 75?

Will I be too drunk to cook my turkey lol.
