Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday?

So, last night i sat down and worked out some figures. I was aiming to save £600 in January, but with my sons birthday in the same month and not getting paid by clients/agency (i am self-employed) until 2nd week in January, it's going to be almost impossible.
See the 'ALMOST impossible' bit? Well, i am still going to try and get as close to that £600 as possible. I have worked out that i should be able to save £330.

I forgot that i have 2 dinners out in January; 1 with friends and 1 with just me and my 2 boys for my sons birthday.

I am hoping to be able to save for the birthday meal out of my food budget..we'll see

hi WantToBeSE, hope you had a great Christmas :) I like your "almost impossible" goal - go for it. I don't know if I can achieve my goal for next year either but am going to try - if you try you obviously get a lot further than you would otherwise. It's very sensible to think month to month though as well - I must sit down and think about January too, now that Christmas is over.

    Good afternoon All :)

I am only working Monday, Thursday and Friday next week, before getting back to normal the week after.
Will be getting paid on 10th Jan, and should be getting an extra £96 for the hours i have worked over Christmas :) I only worked an extra 12 hours, but every £ counts, so that'll go straight into the savings pot.

I am sorting out a pile of things to eBay. I have 2 piles, 1 to the charity shop (stuff that wouldn't sell on eBay, too old and worn) and decent stuff that i have hardly worn and is now too small for me (Next/Debenhams etc, size 8s and 10s that i have been meaning to throw away for a while now that i am a size 14!). Hopefully i'll make a bit of money from that to put into the savings pot too :)

Have spent a grand total of £60 since Christmas Eve and that was only yesterday for the food shop, so i am pretty pleased with that.
    13 days left until payday...

'Project Positive Thinking' (PPT) starts now...

I went to start the car this afternoon (want to take the recycling to the recycling point) and it wont start.

The digital display (clock etc) fades away when i try to start it...i am guessing it may be the battery? It turns over and tries to start, but wont.

    *sigh*

So, i have called my breakdown people and someone will be with me within 1 hour. I am not sure what to think...so i am now just thinking out loud..

    * If it's just the battery, will i have to buy a new one? How much will that cost? Or will a jump start get it back to normal? I know nothing about cars!

*If it's anything more serious than the battery, i am better off getting a cheap run around with the £700 i have saved, plus what is in my bank £250, so i can spend £950 if i really need to...but i'd rather not. Thank God i have saved that £700..PPT

*It's been very simple to get hold of my breakdown people, i am very glad that i chose to add the Homestart service..PPT

*I am so glad it happened today and not tomorrow when i tried to go to work. At least this way, i have a chance that the car will be sorted (i.e. the breakdown people can fix it so it will at least start) so i can get to work tomorrow..PPT

This too shall pass....and worrying wont solve anything.

It may just need a charge at your local garage., and even if new will be around 50-80? If you can jump it when they are there, and then drive it a round, you could be OK?

how long since you drove it? I have had this problem when I don't drive for a week,

    Thanks atush :)

That's exactly what happened. He started it without a problem and told me to go for a 20 minute drive, and hopefully it'll start in the morning!
Basically my battery needs replacing. He said i could pick one up for about £50.

I really dont want to spend any more £ on this piece of junk, but i have to...yet another reason to save up for a newer car.

    *sigh*

Mine too, if it's any comfort, WantToBeSE! A couple of days ago. But I haven't done anything about it yet. I'm thinking it's the battery too - I haven't driven it for a couple of months.

I do hope yours turns out to be easily and cheaply fixed (and mine too).

PS didn't see your latest post - good news that it's a reasonably cheap fix. :)

    Hello Diary :)

What a wonderful start to 2014. I had an AF (alcohol free) NYE and awoke feeling very refreshed and raring to go.

Also, at some point over Christmas and New year i managed to save another £162.67, bringing my current total to £862.67 :)
I am due an extra £96 in the next few weeks, for the days i have worked over Christmas and the NY, so that'll go straight into savings.

I wont be able to save anything next week as i am off out for a meal with friends, and then the week after it's my sons birthday so we (me and both of my sons) are going out for a meal that night too, as well as me giving him £100 as a present. He is saving up money and building his own gaming laptop. Bless him, he is a very clever lad for only 14.

2013 was a good one for me, i hope that 2014 will be even better :)
