However, there is absolutely no need to be rude to people who do believe, and imply they're morons/weak/stupid/gullible fools.
Yes I take on board that many mediums (not all, but many) are fake, and the fake ones (IMO) are the ones who take money for their readings and 'connections' to peoples loved ones. And maybe many paranormal experiences and suchlike, may be easily explained with a rational and logical answer.
However, nobody has any right to sit in judgement and basically laugh at people for their beliefs. It's just rude. To say that THEY don't believe, and then to go and mock anybody who 'does' believe, is very narrow-minded and rude IMO.
Of course people are entitled to believe in any nonsense they wish to. And, as we know, many do. But there has never, ever, been a single scrap of evidence that anyone can get into contact with dead people. And there never will be, because common sense tells us it is a ludicrous proposition. They are dead, simple as that.
All, not most, mediums, fortune tellers, spiritualists etc are fakes. Their motives may vary. But the fact remains that they cannot contact the dead. They may, of course, hear voices in their head, but that is treatable these days. People who fall for all this nonsense are often vulnerable and bereaved. There are some who desperately want to believe and cannot part with their money quickly enough. They may be stupid but they do deserve protection from these charlatans.
If I wish to 'sit in judgement' on the stupidity of people, I shall do so. It is not narrow-minded to regard all this nonsense as a money-making scam, it is common sense. You would laugh at an adult who believed in Santa Claus or fairies in the garden, so why should this be given different status? If you make ridiculous claims, be prepared to be ridiculed!:pFrom an '8 year old' - used for decades in Court - get real.
It was a valid, expression to show he was telling what happened, rather than making up a story. He you chose to not believe - that's up to you. But I not you prefer to ridicule - rather than stop and think - maybe things happen that aren't logic or easily explainable!!
The court oath is a throwback from the days when religion was used to control the masses. It is not used as often as you may think. I have given evidence in court countless times, and always affirmed. Plenty of criminals swear for effect, then proceed to lie with impunity. It is meaningless.I think you have a valid point regarding people wanting to hear what they want to that is why religion was born, it helps people in desperate times. however lets talk about imagination as you mention the word. in my opinion I can imagine but how do I influence 6 people to imagine the same thing how do I get a person to write something down on a piece of paper as I have said in the reply before and everyone see it? 3 words were written down 'father and son' how did I get 6 people to imagine the same thing and get one of those to write it down?
Ive said im a non believer, but im also open minded, also by saying puttinfg my hand on my heart I was saying this to suggest to you that i am not a liar, believe me telling the truth is much more fun than lying.
i do beleive that there is some kind of influence going on but im not sure I understand it.
You should watch Derren Brown. He does everything these mediums do, yet makes no bones about the fact that what he does is nothing to do with the supernatural and he has no such powers. He has demonstrated how people's minds can be influenced and controlled, and that you can convince people of just about anything. He has also discredited so-called mediums, notably Joe Power.0 -
do not show me links and its so easily explanable but you have posted replies with nothing, no explanations, just rubbish.
please explain how I got a person to write on a piece of paper the words 'father and son' never seen this person in my life before the event, I was told to ask my dad a question which no one except me knew the answer. The answer was on the paper within seconds of me asking the question, no more no less.
I do not really beleive I was talking to my dad but its a good eye opener when other questions are also answered.
Dunno, ask Derran Brown, he does that stuff all the time.0 -

It would seem that you are desperate to believe in all this 'speaking to the dead' stuff. It is exactly that mindset that keeps charlatans like Sally Morgan and Joe Power in their millionaire lifestyles. (Take a look at Morgan's website!)
Oh, hang on.......it's coming to me now......does the name 'John' mean anything to you?:think:0 -

Where did I say anywhere that *I* was desperate to believe anything? Indeed, where did I actually state that I DO believe in the paranormal?
I was merely stating that people are entitled to believe what they want to believe, but that there was no need to be so rude and offensive about people who DO believe if you do not.
But you carry on reading into posts how you see fit and twisting words to suit your own agenda, if it makes you happy.0 -

How would you react if an adult you were having a serious debate with told you they believed in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus?
There is a difference between calling someone an idiot and stating a belief is idiotic / silly
The former you are attacking a person. The latter you are attacking an ideaAll your base are belong to us.0 -

If they DID say that, and they DO believe in them, or ANYthing else I may not believe in, then that's up to them, and neither I or ANYone else has a right to mock and ridicule.
But hey, if it makes someone feel better about themselves to mock and ridicule people for believing in things they don't believe in, then all I can say is knock yourself out! :cool:0 -

I don't mock or ridicule people, just ideas

ok, im going to tell you something and im going to put my hand on my heart and swear on the bible now. This is true what im going to say. Believe it or not as this as you say is only a stupid toy. But would love to hear any explanation you could offer me.
I went on a board around 2 years ago, my father died 4 years ago this new years day coming up.
I was invited to a Ouija meeting by some people who were quite knowledgeable about this kind of thing, I only went on it as i'm a non believer and love to catch people out. I was told my dad was in the room, great I thought, never spoke to him much when he was alive so this was going to be fun. I was told to ask my father a question no one in the room could possibly know. So I thought quite hard and asked my dad what song was playing on the hospital radio in the ward the moment he died. No one could have know this and lets face it there are millions of songs to choose from. I had my finger on this glass but it was on so lightly that if the glass moved my finger simply slipped off. I also watched everyone else's fingers on the glass hoping to see one nail go white with the pressure of pressing. No one on that glass knew the answer. No one!
So I asked my dad the question, my wife was stood back from me but watching, she had no contact on the glass but knew the answer to the question I asked my father.
Soon as I asked the question and bare in mind I was watching everyone else's fingers and paying no attention to the letters (I didnt even know where the letters where placed) As soon as I asked the question the glass began to move in a steady pace.

That said lucky guesses/cold reading is my train of thought. As a hell of a lot made no sense at all and meant nothing.0
