Family cut themselves out of my son's life

Thanks for the positivity. Nice to read things like that than things about police etc! On that note, the legal adviser has just told me to go by what police say and push them to take action. Oh, and yes, wiglet's dad did come last week again. I set up a gingerbread house-making activity which they enjoyed. He is doing okay so far, and we agreed boxing day not Christmas day. I hd to remind him about wiglet's xmas list though- just one thing I've asked him to get- but feels odd to have to do that. I had spent 3 months without a coat cos I focus on getting wiglet things first and place myself last after all basics. It's weird to have to prompt someone to do that, as I always get wiglet whatever he needs beyond my own needs. But I've gotten myself the walking dead s3 boxset for Christmas so I'll have one little gift!
As for Christmas, we're going to a school fair this weekend. He's going to see santa next week and see Frozen too (ticket courtesy of Iceland!). Also booked him in for a sports session at a school over holidays that will give us something to do.
Can anyone advise about dinner for Christmas though? I am getting my shopping via Asda delivery. There is a breast joint at £5, thigh joint at £4 and medium crown at £8. I want enough for turkey sandwiches but not too much fuss/time/waste/expense. I got myself a mini oven a month or two ago which can fit it in and saves me using halogen cooker. I might make wiglet a mix dinner (nuggets/jetters/chips that kind of pick as you go dinner) and just have turkey myself with dog? JUst not sure how to cook all these different turkey bits as I've never done a Christmas dinnerUp and onwards to the future!

You should find that the meat that you buy from Asda will have instructions about cooking temperature and times ....and my friend cooked a WHOLE turkey last year in a halogen oven:eek:
You are starting to make some wonderful memories for Wiglet! Have a wonderful Christmas xxx0 -

Turkey is dead easy to cook. If you can get a little turkey crown, buy a cheapy pack of streaky bacon and lay the strips over the turkey. Roast it in the oven for however long it says on the wrapper, cover it with foil when you take it out of the oven so that it can "rest" for 15 mins or so. You'll be able to carve it easily and you'll have loads left over for sarnies and for the dog!
Don't give wiglet any of those turkey in breadcrumbs things, let him eat the proper meat, you can still do a pick and mix kind of dinner. Don't forget pigs in blankets, all kids love those! Do some little roast potatoes and things like carrots and parsnips cut into sticks, just right for little fingers. Stuffing balls are good too, especially when they're leftover, I always end up scoffing them in front of Dr Who in the evening! (No-one else eats them in my house)
Glad that wiglet's dad is getting involved too, it all seems to be coming together for you.
Hope you get a chance to enjoy your box set!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
If you're the only one eating the turkey, Wiggy, I'd go for the turkey leg. Should be plenty of meat on it for sandwiches as well. I shared a crown with a friend last year and it was far too much meat. The dogs really enjoyed it, mind
Have whatever trimmings you like with it, you choose. Isn't that such a great feeling? This year, I'm having gammon, just for something different (for me anyways). Will probably have gratin potatoes and honey roast parsnips with it. I haven't decided on dessert yet, but I will be consuming vast amounts of chocolate0 -
entirely depends on which meat you enjoy best wiggy. if you like breast meat then go for that one. I would look for one which claims to feed up to 6 people (I find most recommended portions a bit mean), then that ensures you will have enough for your dinner, a portion for Wiglet if he fancies some and some for sandwiches or a curry even.
just follow the cooking directions on the pack - and allow about 15 mins standing time. or even half hour if its well wrapped in foil. I usually take the bird or roast out of the oven when the potatoes come to the boil - I know then that I have about twenty mins standing time for the meat and the veggies then go on in five minute intervals. Swede etc taking nearly as long as potatoes! down to peas which take five minutes. when peas go on I make the gravy. it usually works! and don't forget to do sausages wrapped in bacon - Wiglet will prob love these - the only one of my grandkids who doesn't is vegetarian!0 -
I hope you don't mind Wiggy but I have sent you a PM.0

Another vote for pigs in blankets. I have to make enough for an army. My boys would eat them all day if they could. Don't buy ready made, much more fun to make your own, especially if little hands help0
