Do you see the "funny" side of your Mum's texts ?
How she's getting more and more desperate to get a response.
However as she's a bit of a control freak you are risking her sending officialdom round "in case something has happened" as she's so manipulative so I suggest you respond just once....... Sorry - very busy weekend - we are fine -sorry can't do the fireworks display but hope you all have a good time . Wiggy xx then go back to ignoring her texts again.

In other words be totally oblivious to her manipulation and nastiness but give her no excuse to interfere. Anything you choose to share with her is on a needs to know basis and is friendly but isn't trying to appease her.

As for your nan and sister- they KNOW what your Mum is like -Don't worry !
After all I'm sure when your Mum has kicked off about them to you - you've thought " I know what Mum is like ".

I haven't read your other threads, so apologies if I'm incorrect here, but if your son goes to non-family childminders / nursery etc, please let them know that nobody else is to collect your son unless you've specifically told them about a change on a particular day. They will be well-accustomed to dealing with this sort of information.

I like Duchy's suggestion of a text for your Mum.

Does your sister have a mobile you could use to contact her directly?

I sent a text pretty much what Duchy suggested, got a response back- so can we take x to the firework display'! Ugh, the point does not get through!

LannieDuck- my sister has a mobile but calls go straight to voicemail and texts are not responded to. I think she may have broken or lost it, as earlier last week my mum was saying things like 'x is asking if', x here being my sister.
Up and onwards to the future!

  • I think this is going to be a long haul, people like your mum either don't change or only change very slowly. You have lots of good advice here, maybe now just focus on you and your son and concentrate on nurturing other friendships rather than your somewhat difficult family. The more you have a busy happy life the less their comments will affect you. Good luck I think you are very brave in what you have achieved.

It seems to me that, for all her faults, your mum is really missing your son.

Shame on those suggesting you cut your mother off completely... worst advice ever.
