Son in a difficult situation

How much would he have brought in if he hadn't spent on petrol for the knowledge and the coffees? Would that be enough pay for 3 days' work? Has he given up after only 3 days? Can't he be bothered to work?
Did you read the same post I did? He was doing the knowledge whilst driving around doing his job! He has been ringing agencies and trying to find work plus he is doing childcare so I think that he can be bothered!
Sorry to hear about the mugging OP and him having to spend the night in the hospital, some of here will probably say he should be working not laying about in hospital.0 -
Thanks for your reply. If you read back from my previous posts, yes he couldn't be bothered to do much at all, but this last fortnight it appears he's seen the light and been doing what he's had to do to prove that he can at least try to provide for his family. It was a bit of a let down to find he'd only earnt £20, but to me, trying is half the battle, right? He is going to continue for the next two weeks whilst signing to agencies for night work, wether it be cleaning, warehouse work etc in our local area. Basically, and I'll admit, he's an idle g**, but the penny seems to have dropped and he's stepping up to then plate at last! This latest mugging incident is not unusual in our area unfortunately, it was bound to happen at some point, but I feel so sorry that on top of everything else it's happend to him now.
As I explained in a previous post, my husband and I are happy to fund his London "knowlege". At the end of the day it means a better life for our son and grandchildren, anyone in our position wouldn't do anything less. My husband keeps the motorbike filled with petrol, but of course if our son is riding around London all day then he needs to fill the petrol tank and he's been doing that himself while he's actually "working". His ex partner has been giving him a packed lunch each day, (bless her, considering they're no longer officially "together") so basically it's just the odd coffee/tea he's been buying himself. The mugging came out of the blue, but not unexpected in our area unfortunately.
Thank you supersaver 2, on my original post I agreed with everyone, he needed to get his finger out, but now that he actually is, this happens to him! I haven't spoken to him this evening, but I am hoping he's going to continue the plan of working for the courier company for the next couple of weeks, see how that pans out then back to plan B if it doesn't. He does seem to be trying, but the planets, fate or whatever seem to be against him. I tell you, if I and his dad come out of this sane it will be a miracle!:(

Thank you for the update.
I have to say that having passed through London only a few days ago, and seeing coffee priced at anywhere between £2 and £5 a throw, I too was wondering just how much he had spent on refreshments. He could, of course, have taken a flask from home and put the money into the family exchequer.
I'm sorry to learn that he was mugged but please consider that he might, as a result, expect everyone to pity him and let up on the pressure.
You cannot afford to be soft, Mummying him, and let him carry on being (your words) an idle g I t.
Stay strong, Keep firm. It truly is for his own good, your sanity notwithstanding!0 -
Thanks for the update DeeWren. All my questions were genuinely put as in your post it wasn't clear if he hadn't given up this job before going back to the agencies. Bringing in £20 for his children while looking for another job is better than nothing and I guess that is what I was driving at. Sorry about the mugging, I hope he recovers soon, here too I am permanently in a terrified state when walking home from the tube at night. You know how the saying goes, bad things happen in threes, things can hit any of us all at the same time as this is the nature of life, I'm sure your son will pull out of it all a lot stronger than before. Good luck to him for the future.0

Couriers, taxi drivers and locals don't pay Starbucks prices for tea or coffee... Trust me !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Can't he work full time and do the taxi exams in his spare time?
I know you're worried about the gap in his CV, but childcare is a valid excuse for a gap, for a man or woman.
And yes, if he was living with you he could claim Job seekers allowance until he found a job0 -
Just looked on TESCO job site. There are loads of jobs in London both days and nights. They ll be mostly part time but they're fully flexible contracts so depending on hours there could be lots of overtime. They may get a bad rep but on nights you could earn almost £10 an hour and could fit in with the child care. Flexible means that they can give you 24 hour notice of a shift so good points and bad.0
