Pets on/in the bed

Our old dog used to share our bed.
When we first got him OH went away to Norway for a few months and he used to sneak into OH's side without waking me. Then when OH came home we didn't want to suddenly stop him so he carried on.
When he got old though he was unable to climb in on his own and would make little whimpering noises by my head. I would get out about 15 times a night to lift his rear end up and into bed. We knew he would only be with us for a few more months so we put up with it. A friend said I looked worse then than when my children were newborns!
So any future dogs will not be coming in with us.0 -
I don't like pets in the bedroom and the cat knows not to go in there. It's mostly because both husband and I are allergic to cats (and dogs but we don't have one of those) so I like to sleep in a pet free zone. Apart from the allergy, there is no way I could sleep with Floyd (the cat) he takes over an entire 3 seater sofa so I know he'd have the lions share of the bed, we'd end up falling out:rotfl:
How does that work? You are both allergic to cats but you have one living in the house?0 -
As kids my husband and I both used to sneak family pet into bed beside us at night, no real discussion about the matter when we got our first dog together.
A few years ago, just after one of those real nasty winters, when my inland town's footpaths were hidden by snows for a solid fortnight, my manager at the time was v anti - pet and medically diagnosed as having an ocd cleaning issue.
She asked if, on a really cold night, I ever let the dog sleep in the bathroom or hallway. Was not impressed to hear that he sleeps in our bed every night of the year, along with both cats.
That chat definitely worsened out relationship. Totally worth it
Didn't work there for long. And 2nd new dog means we have a hot water bottle each :0:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -
When we had a dog, it wasn't allowed upstairs, so the opportunity didn't arise.
The cat did what cats do and pleased itself, but it didn't get in the bed, unless it was hiding from the window cleaner.
DD2 used to have a ferret or two in her bed sometimes. No different from having them stuck up her jumper, which is how she transported them, sneaked them on buses etc.

This thread has made me realise I'm not alone. I love my cats, I love my oh too, but I'm not choosing. He can choose. Like it or lump it

How do you tell a dog not to scratch the door to get to you? How do you discipline it when all it wants to do is be near you?
You train it not to, much as you would a child. That's just an excuse for you letting it do what it wants. Children want to be near their parents but most of us insist they sleep in their own beds.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

Seems a lot of people on this thread actually enjoy doggy bumhole breath breathed on them during the night though.
I once had to share a tent with my friend's old flatulent labrador, he wouldn't sleep in her tent and she thought it was funny that he'd stubbornly plonked himself right in the middle of my tent, I didn't, it was one of the most unpleasant nights of my life.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods

Both of my dogs sleep in the bedroom... I find it safer for the house
My girl can get a bit narky with my boy so if they're downstairs in the night and he gets up and spooks her, she'll have a go at him. She's also a pain when it comes to toilet times, she's house trained and will goes outside but if she needs the loo she'll use the kitchen - and she's not a small dog
With them in the bedroom I can keep and eye on them.
My boy is at least 15 so he sleeps on the bed and when it's cold he'll sneak under the covers. Girl is 8 and sleeps on the floor but when she wakes up she'll come and tell me she's awake by licking my face or standing on me...0 -

Yep, I know, but he was a stray and he adopted us. I've adapted to live with him over the years, other people's cats bring me up in a rash and give me asthma, not so much with Floyd now.:A
