For me, getting into a bed where an animal has been is a bit yukky:D
At least you know where the dog has been, a cats daily adventures is anyone's guess!

My GSD when in a cuddly mood, will get on the bed, lay next to me and to indicate he wants a cuddle will stretch and push into me, and will keep doing it until I put my arm under his head.

Also, if I'm sitting on the bed doing my make up, he'll come up and lay his head on my lap and push over all my make up!

Reading through these posts has made me sort of sad. I really really wish I could have Bailie in the bedroom at night but I know it would end up with me not getting enough sleep. Then I'd regret letting her in. I don't think it would be fair on her to allow her in and then change my mind. So I'll have to make do with the sofa surfing (reluctantly).

Dogs on the beds though I'm firm about. Not only do I not want dog hairs in my mouth when I turn over in bed. It's not like they wipe their bums after they have been....Then there's the fact my bedding is plain white and my one dog is very black....Anyway they are allowed anywhere in my house but it's very rare they are allowed on the bed, that I am firm about.

I have 5 dogs, they are all allowed on the bed, but only one of them chooses to sleep on the bed, the rest kip on the floor. None of them like being under the covers anyway.

I'm one of those people who gets about one cold every ten years, so whether being around so much dog boosts my immune system or not, I have no idea, but after 30 years, it doesn't seem to have done much harm.

The way I see it is that it's the dogs home too and he has free roam of it. If I'm sleeping alone then he will sleep on my girlfriends side, when she's here he'll sleep downstairs or sometimes on the bedroom floor.

They're not here very long so I like to allow them some nice comforts while they are.

I don't get the hygine issue - do you not let your dogs on the sofa? Car seats? Do you never sit on the floor where your dog has been? You're right they don't wipe their bottoms however there has only ever been on occasion where I've had to bath Lenny because of it. The rest of the time it's a clean break! Even when he's had the runs it's never an issue (he's got a white bum so you'd definitely be able to see any mess)

Youd be concerned but you have a pet in your own bedroom that sleeps with you? Seems strange to be concerned when you do the same thing yourself.

Not strange at all. Married for a while, animals part of the arrangement, can work around them. But dating someone with animals in the bedroom is seriously off-putting. It happened to me once. We never got to the bedroom stage - when we were together on the sofa the dog kept intruding in a very intimate way and she didn't seem too concerned. I eventually decided that the lady was more interested in her pets than me and made a gentlemanly retreat.

Cats dont need to be in the bedroom all the time. There are other rooms for them to go to.

You haven't met Rescue Cat. When she wants to be somewhere, nowhere else will do. She will rip carpets up until we give in. Sometimes she's out all night, sometimes it's the kitchen chair, but when she wants to be in with us, there's no arguing. As I said above, I am outvoted 2-1 on this.

Currently have three cats on the bed at the moment and a dog was sleeping by my side under the covers with his head on the pillow a few minutes earlier. Snoring loudly and twitching from his dreams.

Needless to say I have no problem with it and will often encourage my dog to do so as I love snuggling up to him at night and stroking him to sleep. Plus all these animals are superb hot water bottles!

The only downside is the hairs but I can put up with that. Bonding with my furry family makes it worth the annoyance.
