    Morning all.

I am not doing any cooking today, love those days, I have had a green juice, needed to use up some ys pears that were on the turn.

I have a golden beet to use up, but that can wait until tomorrow, I have a few bits of chicken to use up, the last burrito and 3 portions of cottage pie. Will have the pie with asparagus and carrots tonight.

Had to throw away a bag with food in, mixed veg, beansprouts and 2 spoiled pears, not happy about that, must try harder, I rarely throw food away nowadays.

Mrs R T - good to hear! You should have put some pics up.
MNR - I need to try burritos, have never made them..

Doing well on using up stuff here.. am really getting through stuff now I'm making an effort!

Used the pine nuts up in a rice stuffed pepper yesterday. Had it with salad potatoes from the veg box.

Used up the last of the cashews today in a vegetable stir fry, I didn't have any tofu so was just nuts and veg.. with rice, only 1 portion of rice left though. Used veg left from last week's veg box, so shredded cabbage, grated carrots mainly plus used a portion of the HG green beans from the freezer.

Using up the rhubarb and HM crumble mix from the freezer tonight too. Lots of empty jars and containers :D Quite a bit to delete from the spreadsheet now but I will buy more basmati rice as will probably have more stir fries over the next week or so.

Was going to have tagines this week but I forgot to soak/cook the chickpeas - still have the turnips in the fridge to use. Will have veg delivery on Friday, probably around £20 of veg plus some tofu.

Am slowly working my way through the quinoa - having it in cooked salad type lunches, but still need to find recipes for bland use of red lentils. Menu over the next week or so will be stir fries, tagines, pizza, jacket potato, gram pancakes, veg pies - if I can be bothered to make it all..
  • Yesterday there were no freezer movements again as we ended up spending a lot of the afternoon at my parents who subsequently fed us.

Today, we had lunch a friend's and for tea this evening it was LO vegetable pasta bake so only thing to come out of the freezer was a bread cake for DS.

Whilst not much progress has been made on emptying the freezer this week no new stuff has been added so at least that's something.

  • Hi kirri, I have photos on my phone and will save them on the computer and then get the hubby to help upload them on here (knew there was a reason I married someone who works in it)

Out this morning is another pack of a4 sized home grown gammon steaks. Very impressed that my chicken did roast dinner, chicken fajitas, sweet and sour chicken and rice and then left over sweet and sour for my lunch today - not bad for a £3.50 chicken.

Will be off to my mums tomorrow after work so the hubby needs to fend for himself which will probably mean take away grrr. Will be returning with more home grown meat for the freezer.

  • Have found out this evening that a friend who is staying with me in April has recently turned Vegan. If anybody has any t & t recipes or tips they would be gratefully received.

    Freezer
    In: 4 hot cross buns
    Out: Nothing

Not a good day freezer wise as the pasta bake I cooked earlier in the week did more meals than planned.

Hopefully these help - the 2nd link is a PDF doc which helps you quickly see what's vegan in stores etc.

I do vegan months regularly, pasta (egg free), curry, salads etc are all good. Asda even do a vegan chocolate spread!

Just went to M&S for first spend of the month. Saved £10 with their offers. So 2 x burgers, and 2 x chicken breasts will go in the freezer. The rest and the bacon and paella will be used for meals over the weekend.
