  • Evening all - I love to read this thread, but just to check is there a specific reason why folk post on what they have taken out and put into their freezer each day? I admit, I like to read it but wasn't sure if there was a reason behind it?

My reasons (off the top of my head, though i am sure i could add more):

    A) to encourage me to be aware of what i have in already and thereby using up what i have already

    B) to deter me from unnecessary spending by being aware of what i have in already.

    C) to encourage me to think creatively in my cooking.

I'm not sure that I understand your question :o

It is a thread about using up what you have in your freezer. So we post what we have taken out to use.

The fact is that I am rubbish at using up my freezer so I also have to post what went in :rotfl:

  • That steak casserole looks nice.

I must admit, I am terrible for still going out buying food then cramming into an already full freezer. If I put my mind to it, I probably have enough food in at the moment to make meals for a month without buying any food, apart from buying the fresh things. I need to take a leaf out of your books sometime. :o
  • hi all hope its ok to join in. I need some inspiration to sort out my ridiculous freezer stocks

Like Lady coupon I am shocking for bargain finding, shoving in the freezer then forgetting about.

My story is that I live alone and therefore it actually does make sense for me to have good freezer space or there would be a heck of a lot of waste. I really enjoy cooking and my slow cooker is my best friend so consequently a one cook session invariable produces at least 4 portions for the freezer :o I have 2 freezers one half a one in the kitchen and a full one in the garage. I buy from costco when I can so have lots of bulk meat like chicken and mince.

During the week I work away a lot and have limited cooking time so my weekend cookathons are great for producing good fast food in the essential ziploc bags :) When I am at home I want quick easy meals so I make lots of soups, casseroles and chillies.

Anyway less of the waffle and this is my goal for the foreseeable future until I have some sensible amount of food in there rather than the mountain I have now

No buying of any meat/fish for a good few months
Eat something out of the freezer every day
Avoid where possible putting anything back in bar the cooked versions of my used up freezer meat (wont waste anything though :))
Do a full list of both freezers (todays task) and keep it in view all the time to avoid any temptation to go out and buy
Post on here every time I have a meal at home from the freezer

Sorry for the long post. Off to do the full inventory wish me luck its scary:)
  • Just polished off a whole packet of jaffa cakes. This eating up of what we already have isn't half as difficult as i thought it would be. Especially at this time of year :j

Kirri I had nothing in my mag? Are you fully going vegan now? What is it veg and pulses only? Will have to look it up, you could make tomato mayo that is totally vegan.

God so many reductions! Loads going in The freezer only thing I have taken out all week is 8 slices of 50/50 bread, today was my best haul, 2 packs of prawn Crouton bites and a pack of chicken bilinis paid 10p after reductions, a large baguette 10p, a pack of organic clementines 49p, a pint of milk, red cabbage 18p, a cartoon of Welchs juice, a small milky bar selection pack £2.84 total

So much fresh stuff I could have bought, but there is no point as I'm still eating fresh stuff bought over the last 2 days, 10p kale, 29p green beans 80p asparagus, bit unsure how it would all freeze, plus not much space, not eaten such nice veg in ages, also loads of 19p coleslaw.

Dinner was leftover Christmas meat ham and pork with potato wedges, I bought some golden and candy beetroot yesterday, so those, along with the kale and asparagus leftover from yesterday and the rest of the coleslaw.

I have deffo been getting my 5 a day of late.
