Just added up my food spends for the year, it sort of sounds a lot.. but when I break it down it doesn't seem so bad.. :o

This is for me plus the pets' veg, mostly organic and nothing with any additives, mostly basic ingredients and scratch cooking, rarely any alcohol, all veggie or more so recently largely vegan. Try and get things on offer but as I rarely shop in shops now I haven't often had reduced items and it's usually more important something has a long date on as I don't use things up quickly.

Total for year, quite a bit up on last year  but I've had far less food in stock after being on this challenge for 2 years!
All food £1820.36 - this is split into two:
= £1068.40 was on food, averaged out to £89 p/m.
= £751.96 was on fruit/veg, averaged out to £63 p/m - though the most expensive month I spent £107.06 on f&v and the cheapest month when I had the most growing I only spent £13.88 so the allotment saves me a LOT!

Dread to think what my bill would be if I was a meat eating, alcohol drinking, non allotment holder :D

All household stuff was an extra £776.53 - averages out to £65 per month (includes toiletries, household essentials like bulbs, toilet rolls, cleaning stuff etc plus things like the odd book, printer cartridges, make up or new appliance/appliance repair bill etc).

I feel like having a very frugal January after adding all that up!! This total may go up a bit as not quite at the end of the month yet..

JB - great glitch if you like pastry! Bizarre it even is included under dairy as most Just Rol is vegan iirc
Yes it is, packets say 'Suitable for Vegans' on them.

Ooh didn't know it actually stated it on the pack :T I'd read it on a vegan forum. The only one that isn't is the gold pack I think.

Just been planning January spends, frugal ones.. just about 6 veg/salad items and yoghurt for the first week. Will do some batch cooking of what is left in the fridge - either root veg/chestnut/mushroom stew or may turn some into pies for dinners. Bean salads or bean dips for lunches..

Fairly cheap dinner tonight - free/HG roast beetroot slices, some leftover from xmas nut roast and some reduced watercress.

Today I added two clearance Chinese sweet and sour sauce from the bargain bin Cost 22p total. Though I will be adding some chicken breasts from the butcher this month but that should be it. I will be concentrating on eating all the old stuff and clearing space in the cupboards and freezer.

Well done to everyone piling pastry glitches and YS into their freezer, mine isn't looking as empty as I thought it would be. Nice looking pie JB !

OH goes back to work Monday and Tuesday and will be taking cheeses, pickles, clementines, mince pies and pastilla. That should clear the fridge/Christmas food up.

Am planning to make a veggie moussaka tonight to use up more cheese.
