Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

  • Only just getting in to this now in a structured sort of way. The fridge freezer was jammed solid over the holidays, but I managed to use up everything in our second, under counter freezer - it then got defrosted and given to my lovely sister in law who has three hungry teenagers and far more need of it than us.

I'm trying to just replace items that are totally used up - with a toddler in the house i don't think it's legal to run out of fish fingers!

Big salmon fillet went in last night, as we weren't going to eat it in time. No other frozen stuff bought this week, which is impressive considering that all the posh ice cream seems to be on half price offers.

OUT: 2 Portions Beef mince, making a lasagne so some will frozen
Do I need it or just want it.
  • In: Home-made bacon (bit salty and fatty, but will do in a stew or suchlike)
Out: Sausages;parsnip soup and half-baguette for lunch, multi-grain bagels and goats cheese for lunch tomorrow, veggie-burgers and challah rolls for tomorrow night.

There is actually room in the freezer - not a huge amount, but it's definitely there!

  • Every time I make stew I always seem to be left with one portion that everyone's too full to eat, or not bothered eating, and it goes in the freezer. Remembered to take two of those pots out last night, so we'll have those for dinner with some bread and butter.
That bottom drawer is definitely easier to close now!

You could add stuffing mix to toad in the hole to have instead of any potatoes with it - or just to a batter mix to make a different sort of yorkshire pudding

Oh, I love the idea of that :)

    IN: 2 portions of lasagne
OUT: Nothing yesterday ate rubbish all day, 3 sausage for today.

  • Out: half pack frankfurters, half pack hot dog rolls, end of a bag of oven chips, end of a loaf of brown soda bread
    IN: bag of oven chips.

Having an easy night tonight - hotdogs and chips. A bag of oven chips will go in later. Not enough in the current bag to do all of us, unfortunately.

I also had a proper rearrange of the freezer last night. Things are all neat and tidy now, though I've found a small few bits that I just threw in at some point without wrapping properly and are all freezer burnt and horrible. Those will mostly go to the dogs - first up is that bit of bread. They'll be delighted!
