Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two
Comments
-
Did a shop at the weekend, largely to replace perishables that had been used up. Much smaller than my usual basket though, as i questioned every single thing, and how it'd go with something I already have to make a meal.
Freezer in: pack of posh dogs, 2 x pulled pork
Out: end of a tub of cooked cocktail sausages.0 -
Found a recipe for 'potted turkey' using already cooked turkey, made it but didn't really like it. I won't be doing that one again.

I ran my freezer down to the last, woebegone mystery-thing-in-a-plastic-bag.
After giving the freezer a good wipe down, I've restocked with just enough food to last for a few weeks - instead of ramming it full (like there's going to be a zombie apocolypse).
I now have some extra space for yellow sticker bargains, the freezer is running properly and I don't feel so panicky around stocking it. I simply add the things I've used to my shopping list - and completely use things up without feeling anxious.
Some of you might think this is no biggie - but for me - with a borderline hoarder habit, it feels liberating. I did this with my cupboards and cleaning stash last year too. Bonus - not spending as much to restock - because I'm not buying stupid amounts of product or feeling panicked by items running low.

MeToo Slowly57 with that head space. I am well prepared for the next Suffolk siege and working my way through fruit - vast quantities of frozen and bottled fruit - still masses in there after months of use-ups! At least with the 70% increase in price (£2-£3.25) to bags of wonky frozen berries it has spurred me into action.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)

I'm trying to do the same but it's hard. I did manage to halve my cleaning stash though over the last year.
I've had a couple of days eating out of the freezer in the kitchen, the one where all the bits and bobs end up. I've finished off some shortcrust pastry, some bread, an opened pack of leeks, a few chillies, a piece of cooked turkey, one wrap. (I made a small flan base with the pastry but didn't have enough to make two bases so I used the mini wrap as the second base. I was surprised how well it worked, I'll do it again as it's also a saving on calories).0 -

cupboard - jar sauce, tin soup.0 -
Out of the freezer - 6 lamb chops, 4 chicken winglets, 2 small chicken thighs, mystery soup, Kilner jar of stewed plums (not sure I recall why I froze them but there are 2 more out there)
Out of the fridge - carrots, cabbage and fruit, yogurt, more soup
Out of the garden - lots of leeks
In - DH prepped and froze all the remaining home-grown onions - five containers of them(!) as they were going to degrade or start sprouting - I'm going to ask him to bag up some leeks to freeze too.
In - 2 large packs of large chicken thighs that were 35p off - bagged up for easy use upsSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)
