I need to join in with this. I have a freezer full of food, loads of tins in the cupboard and stuff in the fridge, all of which I need to use up before it goes out of date. I will probably need to get bread, milk, fruit & veg, sandwich fillings, but I'm going to try to avoid buying anything else until I've used everything, then I can defrost the freezer and re-stock it.

It's meat produced or reared at home. Several of us grow some of our own vegetables/fruit and refer to them as home grown or HG for short. A few people have the facilities to produce lamb, pork or other types of meat and obviously Verity's mum is one of them. I grow turkeys and sell them at Christmas, I swap the surplus locally with like minded folk for lamb, pork, venison or pheasants. It's the old fashioned bartering system.

I have decided to set myself a mini challenge in Feb.
I have loads in the cupboards and freezer. I want to reduce this for two reasons.
1) to save some money this year
2) to make space for the summer fruit and veg as we try to live seasonally and freezers are a major part of being able to stretch the seasons.
So the challenge to myself is - apart from bread, milk, butter and toiletries - not to spend any money at all in February. Should be an interesting month!!
