Everyone has their own recipe but I think of them as the Scottish equivalent of lyonnaise potatoes, made with Scottish Roast leftovers instead of stock. Basically some sliced potatoes, onions and roast scrapings, stewed until they almost fall apart and then allowed to go cold and served with cold meat and pickles - we have it a bit like a slice of tureen. It is yum!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)

So many recipes for stovies and it varies from family to family and area to area, ask three folk and you'll get three different answers. A belly filler for hungry families in cold weather.
Around here and what I was brought up with is a mix of potatoes, onions, carrots (and/or swede), lorne sausage also known as sliced sausage, water or stock/gravy, a little salt and lots of black pepper. Made with anything else and it tends to be known as hash or "hot pot".;) Always served piping hot though with either a green leafy veg or baked beans or pickled red cabbage. Good rib-sticking, tasty, winter food that stretches a small amount of meat no matter how you make it.:D

Sort of in and out. Out and cooked food bought in for visitors, frozen quite a lot of it after it was cooked and only partially eaten. Made cake for visitors but as it was not being eaten much, took half of it to a friend who was at the funeral (he is single elder man and buys ready made food only). Been through fridge this morning and micro'd the cauli bought but not used and will use up some of the cheese bought for visitors. Not much of the food bought was used so now have to work out meal plan to use it up.0
