Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two
Comments

Fridge : out - half a tub of home made soup, 1 portion of cocktail sausages, 4 mini chocolate eclairs, the rest of a box of mini sausage rolls, some ham, some cheese

Into fridge today - quarter of a cheese meltdown pizza0 -
By the end of November 2018, freezer contents consisted of 1 drawer full with about 10% missing. At the start of this year, freezer contents exceeded this at approximately 1 drawer full and another started by appox. 20%.
The fridge was moderately full but the store cupboard contained within date unopened food and after the Best Before Date food.
2018 food costs were within budget.0 -
IN some left over slow cooked beef, use it up on a jacket spud. 2 portions of cauli mash.
OUT 3 chicken breasts, I want to stuff them so depending how they turn out at least 1 will go back into freezer stuffed for a ready meal.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
I've decided it's a year where I shall take control, take some time out to do what I want to do and not always be at the beck and call of everyone else. It's new start.
I'm quite pleased with my freezers at the moment. I just need to stay away from the shops and gradually work them down over this year.
All are stuffed full of food.
Freezer No1 has all home grown fruit and vegs, not enough for the year but the veg plot still has kale, brussels, leeks, carrots and potatoes in it and as soon as possible I'll start growing again as I aim to be as self sufficient as possible.
Freezer No 2 - a chest freezer, full of meat, - pork, venison, fish, pheasants, and 17 turkeys (yes that's correct as I didn't quite sell out this Christmas), almost all are jointed with nothing wasted.
Freezer No 3, milk, bread, things I have made both savory and sweet ranging from homemade soup to cakes.
Freezer No 4 - this is a smaller one in the kitchen, it houses all the bits and bobs, opened packets, leftovers, the current loaf of bread, bits of leftover casseroles which I use when there is enough for another meal.
The cupboards are a lot easier to deal with, I only seem to keep herbs, spices, teas, coffees and things for baking and making sauces.
My aim for this week is to have a 'no spend week' and to just use what is in the fridge. Any unused veg will end up as soup.
Tonight's offering is sausages with some leftover rich gravy from yesterday, mash and veg - mince pie and custard.
Happy New Year to all - and stay positive.0 -
Good evening everyone,
I'd like to be reporting that I'm starting 2019 with lots of freezer space but it would be a complete lie:o. A couple of extra gatherings over the festive period with resulting LOs plus the purchase of some SOs a whole salmon (which was portioned into a couple of largeish joints) and a couple of 1/2 legs of lamb have put paid to the space created, never mind that my son brought me a pack of Greek pittas:eek:. I do think though they are as much as anything not organised as well as they might be so that's a January challenge.
Today
In: cooked salmon
Out: nothing
Used up: some eldely spuds were turned into a pan of mash, salmon trimmings and bones have been simmered for stock, cauliflower soup, slice of roast pork, a lurking 1/3 of green pepper, HM lemon butter sauce and the last mince pie:(
Ditched: piece of very soggy cucumber, 1/2 an orange0 -
Oh dear. Everything except the fridge is stuffed to the gunnels. The larder has more jars, packets and sacks than we will use in a year. Three freezers regularly require me to play tetris to layer in yet more bits and pieces, and the shelves of ready made leftovers are stuffed with the remnants of meals I made and assured myself I would remember, but now can't.
I think we will play freezer surprise for the rest of this month and then there might be enough wiggle room to do a proper inventory! I do know there is a turkey out there as it was reduced, but that is for Easter!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2226.88/£3000 or 74.23% of my annual spend so far
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread

Not doing today or possibly not for a week or so but will do another freezer inventory. Have been using some of the cupboard stuff up as well as not cooking as much in SC, only enough for 2 meals so having on day 1 then in fridge and then again on day 3 instead of putting in freezer. All bread is now out of freezer plus all hm soup and decanted milk. Will have to go shopping soon but I can make bread and have carton of milk so can wait a few more days, not been shopping since before Xmas.0
