I feel like I'm cooking all this food, but not eating it, I made the Boston beans yesterday kirri they were good, but had to cook it longer as the beans were hard.
I have the meat loaf in the oven, along with a tray of hestons pies, most of that will go in the freezer as I only now eat meat at weekends.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

you sound like just the incentive I need. Can I join you please? I have a small allotment, which provides very well for us all summer and autumn and a lot of produce has gone into the freezer, I have 2 now, a large one with drawers in the kitchen and the smallest beko chest in the garage. Both are absolutely crammed as full as they could be, honestly I have to squeeze on packages to close the drawers.
We eat organic when possible and I love raw sometimes, smoothies and juices and vegan and veggie as well as good meats at times and fish when I have the space to fill a drawer from the cornish fishmonger.I make bread and bottle, jam and pickle and make wine. However!!! I am trying to cut down and ignore my natural preserving instincts, there are only the two of us left at home for goodness sake.
I saw a few pages back about abel and cole, I last used them for a one off, several years ago at my last address. I went on their site and loved the versatility ie I won`t get the items I don`t want and at the moment it is squash and cabbages, I have lots. So I have signed up and get a free book and fourth box, it will only be until the allotment is productive again but is a great thing for us
Running the freezers down has to be the first step, arghh!! it is so daunting
Today out, gooseberries, juice from blackcurrants, lamb burgers and one part roasted potato. Nothing in and that is a start0 -
Welcome kittie
Good to see another allotment owning organic eater!
I found A&C/Riverford boxes really handy to fill in lean gaps on the allotment.ms_night_ryder wrote: »I feel like I'm cooking all this food, but not eating it, I made the Boston beans yesterday kirri they were good, but had to cook it longer as the beans were hard.
Cooking one thing seems to make loads of portions though..
I read in the WF book that haricot beans should be simmered 2 hours, I didn't cook them that long though. I cooked my beans before I made the sauce but probably only for an hour after overnight soaking and they seemed soft.
Apparently one of the harder beans to digest it says.0 -
are you just freezer emptying? lol, I decided last minute to make a delia christmas cake and lo and behold had everything in my cupboards, except orange zest, so I chopped up some orange slices that I had dehydrated and that will have to do. I even have the marzipan in a cool cupboard, bought last year but still well in date. Tbh I am really aiming to eventually get a few bulk made meals in the freezer, looks like it may well be next year
Kirri, I used to get riverford when we lived in s wales but the quality went down and I avoided boxes since then. Am very happy that I was pointed to A and C, I have nothing to lose and it may well lead to me not cramming as many veg into my plot. I am so enjoying raw here and there too and have a shortage of greens, other than cabbages, so A and C will be timely
I made a gorgeous nigel slater smoked haddock and bean meal yesterday, I used white beans and soaked overnight. They do cause windiness so I did the usual fast boil, discard of the liquid and added some bicarb. So far so good, it was a lush meal and so easy from the NS diaries book. So that was haddock out of my freezer and beans out of my cupboard. Doh, I can`t tell you how many stores I have0 -
Hi kittie ! :j Another organic eater :T You should come visit on the organic food thread too if you haven't already
I like Abel & Cole and Riverford for lots of stuff but when I buy boxes I get them from Ocado as always stuffed to the gills, never had anything manky and get 10% SmartPass discount
Tried the Young's wheat, dairy and gluten free fish fingers yesterday and they're great. 10 for 1.99 from Ocado so not cheapest but couldn't tell any difference. OH hasn't had any stomach upsets since going wheat/gluten free which is great.
How many people on here are coping with own/family allergies, intolerances etc ?0 -
I didn`t know there was an organic thread and I have been on mse for years
Ocado! now that is interesting, I never knew they did boxes. I am going to look. I have no customer loyalty, yet0 -

It's organic-wild-additive free ie additive free as a starting point with organic and wild as strong preferences.. and contributed to by people with interests in vegetarian, vegan, low carb, gluten free as well as standard meat, poultry, game and fish.. quite Tardis like really0 -
In - nothing.
Out - HM Salmon Quiche.
We had a waitflower RM that Mr F had fetched home and put in the freezer. The RM was Lamb Rojan Josh and Pilau Rice.
I did some extra rice - it was the last of the Basmati rice in the cupboard so I added some OOD Fragrant Thai Rice. Toasted some naan bread as well.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

oh my!! I took 2 portions of breaded fish out and lovely mrs beetons chips and a few frozen peas. A quick meal was needed and so is the space. Then I logged on and there was an e mail from `fish for thought` with a free delivery offer. Their fish is very lovely and ultra fresh and suffice to say I succumbed so  somehow, I have to find space for 3 kg of fish by friday, in four days time. I am keeping calm and am thinking, a big pan of soup with lots of home grown frozen veggies and a very large crumble filled with frozen blackberries and frozen bananas topped with frozen crumble On friday I will take chicken portions out and a container of hm chicken stock. That should do it as fish weighs heavy.
If we are snowed in for 6 weeks, as in 2010, then I will have a fighting chance of making inroads. No shops for miles and uphill out of the village on small lanes0
