Kirri, I haven't used harissa since going organic, always used to use Le Phare du Cap Bon in a tube before. Was yours in a jar ?
Yes in a jar, the product was ok as such just wasn't what I consider a harissa in any shape or form, it was a herby harissa but tasted more like mint sauce, made my veg burgers taste strange and I didn't know what else to use it in.. I'm fairly sure I've had organic traditional harissa in a jar but can't remember what brand. I've never bought harissa in a tube.Welsh_Poppy wrote: »Kirri

Impressive!
Today:
B - yog/granola/oj
L - pitta and garlic butter
D - either a tagine or more likely the vegan red pesto - as I forgot to put any chickpeas in soak overnight.
Will snack on fruit and G&B..0 -
Morning all.
Kirri I have seen the Clapham branch, but never been in, it's the size of that health shop in balham.
I think I'm going to crack open my new slow cooker today and make a fish stew, will add crab meat also and the last can of my freebie 5 beans, which are a few weeks ood.
Need to pop out to get the fish for the stew, also thinking of adding a few leaves of kale and some mixed veg, maximise my veg in take, will get some crusty bread later.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

and a John Torode one

which makes half a kilo of the stuff!
For bulk batches, put in sterilised jars or freeze in ice-cube trays for one-portion cubes.Have had the mould prob with organic pesto in a jar until I tried this.. first off, after use make sure you push any pesto on the insides of the jar down with a clean spoon. Once you've cleaned off the sides, then add a teeny bit of olive oil over the pesto so it forms a film shutting out the air. I've not had the olive oil go hard myself when it's just a tiny bit on top of the pesto. But if it does it's not harmful.'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

Well done on the no baking.. but if you're on a diet maybe you could try lower carb flours if you get withdrawal symptoms ? I'd guess that even just the mixing is therapeutic ?
Jelly Biactol as Middle Eastern/N African food often contains a lot of grains, I'm not sure it's worth me making harissa because with me low carb and OH now wheat/gluten free it won't be a priority. OH can eat quinoa but that's still too carby for me.
The good news though is that having found organic gluten free shirataki noodles for me and organic gluten free rice noodles for him we can go back to making Chinese food
OH does make pesto in summer to use there and then, a foodie Italian lawyer shared his recipe and OH uses pestle and mortar. We probably don't have enough basil to make enough to bottle tho.0 -
The 5 beans were still in date upon checking. I used them and bought Haricot beans and lardons today, to make my own baked beans.
Kirri I bought some. Cashew butter in Mr s, I'm a fan, but the bad thing is, I bought a organic baguette from Mr w, it broke on the way home and fell in the road, so I had some with cashew butter, the rest is for dinner with my lovely fish stew which is cooking away nicely in the sc.
Also brought 3 lot's of hestons mini ham, leek and chicken pies, there is 12 in each pack, they were reduced but originally 6.99 per pack after reductions and multi buy discounts I paid 3.49 for all 3 which is right up my street.
There is enough dinner for 4-5 meals, I will have to freeze a few portions, as I am making meatloaf on Saturday, pork and lamb. Freezer and fridge are finally looking healthier.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

Ms_Night_Ryder your seabass stuffed with kale. fish stew and baked beans sound fantastic
I bought OH an organic baguette from Morrisons just before he went wheat free and managed to break it in half too, tricky devils. OH tried organic baguettes from Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrisons. He thought the best was Waitrose, next best Tesco. They sell out so fast tho I found it difficult to find organic baguettes.
OUT freezer
Last of the organic bread to take to my mother. Hopefully she'll be able to make herself a nice bread pudding !0 -
Edwardia, seabass stuffed kale is my fave now, only wish that I get more reduced seabass, but I may try kale between 2 tilapia fillets, see how that works out. This fish stew better be good! lol Really need to get back into the habit of cooking a lot more than I have been. doing o.k so far, cholestral needs bringing down.
I was reading that oat brings it down by 10% if eaten daily, I hate porridge, need to find an alternative receipe, was thinking flapjacks but so fattening lol, was thinking of adding to my daily soothie, but it may make it really thick.
I have a pineapple I am waiting to ripen a bit more before cutting it. going to make the baked beans over the weekend, I think it will go well with the meatloaf, might even skip the carbs!Lose 28lb 3/28lb

Mornflake organic oats are on offer at Morrisons ATM 1.49 for 750g (normally 1.99) and there is a recipe section on the Mornflake website

Salmon might work too - ASDA does two fillets of organic salmon for £4 from the fish counter - you could always cut one in half and make a salmon-kale 'sandwich' and freeze the other one. I like them a lot.
