Irritatingly, I did get some more JL freebie vouchers at the beginning of the week but think I threw them out when I was tidying up receipts etc from my purse

Good idea re sweet and sour, although I wouldn't know how to make a S&S sauce so it'll have to come out of a jar :D

I enjoyed pork sandwiches with my leftover roast pork, you could do a stir fry? some kind of Chinese soup, do you have a freezer? I can remember if you did or not, if you do, v=cut the joint in half and freeze I do it all the time.

Hi Ms N-R, no I don't have a freezer so I'm going to have to cook it and eat it very quickly (oh, life is hard sometimes isn't it! :D)

I'll definitely do pork sarnies to use some of the leftovers, and a spicy tomato/bean bake thingy, but I think it is a big enough joint to do about 8 generous meals. So, sweet and sour stirfry is also on the cards

Out of freezer - HM pie.
    In to freezer - nothing.
We had HM smoked salmon quiche + HM wedges + mushy peas for dinner.

Older why don't you have a freezer? you can buy them well cheap! are you getting into the whole cooking thing now? why don't you roast half the joint, then make a bbq pulled pork with the other half, I used to make pulled pork in the slow cooker all the time.

Just had cheese omelette and watercress, baby chard & baby spinach salad tonight in the end - was good, but didn't fill me up.. so just had a banana, still hungry.. nothing else suitable to snack on.

    can't wait for breakfast!

Thinking of tapas style meal tomorrow as got some surprise mushrooms in the salad box - so garlic mushrooms, patatas bravas and maybe a spanish type bean thing if I can find a recipe or maybe Catalan bread or griddled asparagus.

Will make bread in the morning - to have at lunch. Will make some sort of houmous or bean dip to go with it and salad.

Have just got veg, grains/pulses, eggs and cheese here for evening meals next week. Challenging cooking week ahead!

I have a v small kitchen which is built-in so can't get a freezer in anywhere without destroying the kitchen. Even my fridge has to be extra small to fit in with the way the kitchen was built. I dream of being able to afford a replacement kitchen with a freezer, dishwasher and proper sized fridge and it's been on the 'to do' list for years but my bank account keeps saying 'no' :D

I'm going to try to get in to cooking for myself though as living on ready meals and salads is expensive and I just think cooking should be a pleasure rather than a chore. I'm gradually stocking up on bits and pieces of equipment but am hampered by the lack of space to store them (would love a food processor but can't find anywhere to put it!)

Ah well, just means I'll have to be inventive about what/how I cook I suppose

I have both my freezers in the garage.
In my last house I had two huge chest freezers in the dining room. It was a very large room.
Thinking about it - the house before that - where I bought my first freezer - it sat in the lounge/diner. So I have never had a freezer in the kitchen.

  • Hi Mrs F, hope you've got lovely sunshine where you are too.

I did think about where else I could put a freezer but I've got a small house, just a little 'two up, two down' so there is precious little space for anything. Also, I don't like having too much stuff crammed in as the house is old and I like to be able to see if it gets damp/crumbles etc (which it does, regularly :rotfl:!) Actually, it is a nice house and brilliant for transport connections so it was worth compromising on space for that.

^ Your house sounds spacious compared to what I have!
I'm having another clear out this weekend, just no room to move.. though if I moved to anywhere bigger I would still try and keep the same minimal amount of possessions.

Got up early for breakfast as was starving after last night - no wonder I've dropped 2lbs in the last few days..

Made bread and split pea dip for lunch, with more salad. Was really hungry by the time that was made.. Put 1 loaf in the freezer and got 1 more portion of the split pea dip for lunch tomorrow.

Dinner was a sort of tapas - the last portion of patatas bravas from the freezer, garlic and thyme mushrooms, the last of the asparagus (though not as nice grilled, I usually griddle it) and didn't have the energy to find a bean recipe so just added a non tapas like slice of garlic & cheese bread.

Veg wise, apart from loads of salad stuff, I have 4 salad potatoes, 1/2 pack of mushrooms and a squash to use, plus the frozen HG veg. So rough meal plan for the week:

    1. The last of the mushrooms with some Catalan bread and maybe even cook up more patatas bravas with the last of the salad potatoes and maybe add some salad or a bean recipe..
2/3. The squash I might stuff with brown rice/blue cheese - probably make 2 meals out of it and have it with salad.
4/5. Got a new recipe for lentil balls I might try as I have limes/coriander at the moment, along with another new recipe for fiery red rice salad, so another 2 meals.
    6. Another cheese omelette and salad
    7. Maybe rice/red lentil dahl to finish off the week.

Snacks - bananas & will make more fairy cakes.

Lunches - probably bread and bean dip and salad. Probably do a chickpea houmous this time.
