I used up a portion of the hm frozen tagine today.. (only 2 more portions in the freezer) but I only really liked the potatoes and chickpeas in it, just wasn't keen on the turnips and carrots for some reason. Tried to disguise it by adding a pile of coriander couscous which did improve it and wasn't too bad a meal in the end for a vegan tagine.. Almost running out of couscous and will buy another pack though may use up the bulghar wheat first.

Still no chocolate, cakes or biscuits :(

I have more turnips in the fridge to use too, need to find something to use them in...

Kirri well done! On the no sweet stuff and using up things you don't like.

I have taken out the last portion of fish casserole, was going to have some today, but ended up eating at my grandmas, as my cousin came over from Bangkok where he lives for 2 day's to do some pilot training, so I ended up hanging out with him, haven't seen him for 6 years, the roast pork was yummy!

I believe that it tastes nicer than shop bought ones and is loads cheaper and you know exactly what has gone in it. Any left overs go into the freezer as a ready meal for when I an pushed for time.

Out the freezer are some home.grown lamb chops. Almost out of fresh veg (apart from potatoes and onions) so the rest if the month will be frozen veg with meals.

  • Yellow stickered stewing beef out the freezer in the slow cooker along with my 6p carrot and sweed, some potatoes and onion this morning. It's going to be nice to get home and not have to cook.

However on the freezer front it feels like I am using up small items and so not making much dent in creating space as I am making these meals stretch if that makes sense? Has anyone else had this happen?

Oh yes - I agree. I get say - bag of 4 sausages out of freezer - make into pie - result - 3 tubs of HM pie going in to freezer. Very thrifty but not exactly stash reducing.

    Very low on meals/food here..
In the fridge I have a pack of tofu, 1/2 pack of chestnuts leftover from making pies today, cashew butter, jam, condiments plus remains of veg box.
Plenty of dried wholefoods in the cupboard, most of these are fresh now, having used up most of the old stuff and replaced the things I like and use a lot. Just 2 tins left, condensed milk from ages ago and coconut milk.
Not much meal wise in the freezer, 2 portions of hm veg tagine and some HG veg/fruit remnants.
Making meals out of all this requires quite some effort now!!

    Today:
    Made 2 loaves of bread.
Made 12 muffin sized veggie pies and used the last of the hard butter in the pastry - filling was puy lentils, garlic, mushrooms, chestnuts, thyme, turnip (diced really small so I can't taste it), the last carrot. Turned out really well for freestyle pies! Just had one with watercress.

Need to work out what to use the rest of the chestnuts in as they won't last long now they are opened - might cook up some more puy lentils, garlic, thyme, chop the chestnuts in with it and maybe some more diced turnip and make into pies with a mash potato topping with the last of the potatoes.
