  • Tuggy - got to agree, they really are making it hard and no transparency at all. And the govt minister says change supplier!!! not easy when you're with the cheapest one for you but you can't get through to them to change tariff eh!

    Take care.

There are 2 march 2015 tariffs.

The one you refer to is the expensive one!

The cheaper one ends 31 March.

There is a fixed price energy April 2015, is this the one you refer to as ending in March 2015 which it does or is there actually another one which ends March 2015...they don't make it easy do they?

According to Uswitch the Online fixed energy March 2015 is the best for me, this is the one I have requested to be changed over to.

  • Be VERY CAREFUL. I have seen TWO tariffs called "SP Online Fixed Price March 2015". One is "With Standing Charge" and the other is "No Standing Charge". As a moderately heavy user 25,000/5,000KWh I am switching to the one "With Standing Charge" which is the one definitely cheaper for me. I am new to SP, moving from "EDF Fixed March 2014", very simple using the comparison sites.

In past the SC, NSC options always struck me as being pretty much comparable for all but low users.
NSC benefits low users because if they dont meet higher charge quota they would end up paying less than the standing charge amount, whereas if they did use the higher charge quota and moved to lower unit cost the amount paid works out comparable to paying the Standing Charge.

Would agree with your choice from SP compared to EDF though as EDF SC is much lower than SP's.
  • I've just switched to this tariff from the Online fixed price energy November 2013 and my DD actually went down by £8 so it seems like I got a good deal just when prices are about to get hiked again but I can't help but wonder if there is any catch to this deal for a number of reasons:

Prices are about to rise imminently, yet SP release a relatively cheap tariff that would effectively shield anyone it from those rises until March 2015. Which makes me wonder if those rises have been factored into this deal or not?

The other possibility is that they know that with impending rises, all the savvy customers will switch so maybe this tariff is to keep them happy while the price rises will affect the stupid/vulnerable/lazy customers who can't/won't switch and they will foot the bill for this tariff?

When you switched did they ask you for meter readings? they did for me and my DD went down too. But its not because its a cheaper deal, your usage is probably just down so when the system recalculated your DD it was based on less predicted annual consumption.

As you say, if they can offer this deal now which they will be stuck with for 18 months - brings into question whether the rises that are bound to happen soon are really justified. (or will the non fixed customers be milked harder to subsidise the fixed raters?)

They did ask but I skipped it at that point. I did however enter them today and it seems that prices are roughly the same as they were on my old tariff, certainly not cheaper but at this point I'm happy that it wasn't a substantial rise.

It does seem illogical to me that they would start selling a tariff that doesn't factor in any increased prices and then keep it fixed for 18 months when we know for a fact that they are going to raise prices probably this week. It's a one-way bet, a no brainer to fix this cheap. My guess is that it is to keep the savvy customers who are planning on ditching and switching as they are only ones clever enough to go on this deal anyway and it's better to have their money than someone else taking it. There's always some angle...

Has anyone who applied for the tariff online had a reply or confirmation of being put on the new tariff yet?

I applied online last monday, had confirmation that it had been logged, but despite their "up to 5 days reply" i have not heard anything back.
