Online Fixed Price Energy March 2015

Does anyone know roughly how long a switch usually takes to come into effect. I'm currently on the Jan 2014 fixed price tariff which ends at the end of Dec but was hoping to hold off initiating the switch via My Account until start Nov so I can get another payment out of the way first given the Jan tariff is £15 month less.
The date of switch is irrelevant, as you submit meter readings when you apply. The application simply generates an e-mail that sits in a queue. It could be weeks before they actually action the switch, if they are swamped by applications. Or tomorrow.
We went through something similar with E.On a few years ago, who also refused to do post dated switch. I think their phone lines melted from all the people refusing to take NO for an answer that eventually they relented. I think some inexperienced operator allowed it when he/she shouldn't have, and it was reported by an MSE, so all the calls became "It's not fair, if the other guy can post dated switch, why can't I?".
Assuming they bought energy contracts when they set up the January 2014 fix, forcing us to switch before scheduled termination seems untidy to me.0 -
Hi all,
My current Scottish Power Online Fixed Price Energy November 2013 is due to end 31/10/2013.
I am interested in switching to this offer and have looked at my online account but the only online offer for me to switch to is the one which ends 31st December 2014 NOT March 2015.....
Tried calling but after waiting 20 mins (twice) gave up!
Any other way I can just switch online?0 -

Hi,
Only a certain proportion of Scottish Power customers have so far been moved over to the "New improved" website.
If you're still on the original old website, then the new Online Fixed Price Energy March 2015 tariff doesn't show up as an option to transfer to. The only way to transfer will be to do it by phone.0 -

I was on hold for 80 minutes or so the other day, then line went dead.
You may already have free calls, but if not you can use the 0800 number for new customers and when you get through there is an option for existing customers, just in case it helps.
To make things worse, I got the new customer callback yesterday (was only way to speak to anyone), they can't see your account to help in that way but he said since this new deal went live they have had about 10x the amount of calls each day.
It was impossible to get through before this offer, probably not a lot of chance now.0 -

It's things like this which make me consider switching - almost as much as price..

I'm on the Online Platinum Fixed Energy January 2014 (NSC) tariff and wondering if it's worth my while switching to the Online Fixed Price Energy tariff March 2015 soon. My energy bills are low, but there is a cancellation fee of £50 on the tariff I'm on presently. Will S/P waive this fee if I try to switch online do you think and is it worth my while anyway? (Trying to avoid ringing them!).
Thanks for any advice.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
I believe that if you just switch to a diferent tariff, then they don't charge any penalties. It really only applies if you try to switch providers.
I've opted for online fixed price energy November 2014 to start up when the current fix runs out at the end of this month.Has this one now been withdrawn then as noone has mentioned it yet?0 -

I believe the Nov 2014 has been withdrawn as it shows on the 'previous' deals page. But it was only a fraction cheaper than the March 2015 deal so may as well go with that.0 -

That is a post dated switch!
Grumble grumble, fumble fumble.
This stupid policy needs to tumble.
There is always a separate customer retention department that has the leeway to set it up the way you want it, within reason, and then there's the general customer service department, which has no discretion.0 -

Sounds like a cunning plan Pincher.
Phone them up, ask to speak to Customer Retentions and try to extract a post-dated switch from them.0
